I'm not starting over - Sky need to sort this - as Paramount say you have to cancel with who you got the subscription from - and that's Sky.
What makes you think Sky can 'sort' it? It wasn't their decision to introduce ads.

Re: Paramount plus basic to standard
The deal is with sky, they need to offer the option of no ads through Paramount.
Don't half quote my comment. I already said that to cancel the subscription with Paramount that it's on their website that you have to cancel through whoever you subscribed with.
I don't have the option to end the subscription with Paramount.
I don't have the option to end it with sky.
Where do I go from here?
- I took the offer through sky.

Sky can only do that if Paramount want them to offer an ad-free option.

So as you seem to have all of the answers. Why wouldn't paramount want extra revenue.

It seems Paramount are aiming to do that by 'encouraging' viewers to take an ad-free subscription directly through themselves. But who knows, maybe at some point they'll make an ad-free tier available via Sky too.

Re: Paramount plus basic to standard
I appreciate your input but I'd rather you didn't speak for Sky - I understand you're a superuser which is great to have your input.
However, the only way I can get rid of it now is to cancel Sky Cinema - apparently. Then I can use my current Paramount account to sign up - without losing all my watched/watchlist shows/algorithm etc.
So Skys answer to this is lose Sky Cinema customers?
That makes ZERO sense.
I'm tethered to the Paramount subscription VIA SKY.
It's a bit ridiculous that the only way to get out of it is to cancel a Sky Subscription.
And if I cancel 1 subscription - I'm canceling them all and going back to the basic subscription with Sky.
It's a bit ridiculous and if you can't see that then I'd prefer if you could escalate the issue with a Sky employee through your back channels.
Thanks

Re: Paramount plus basic to standard
It is a silly situation and I'm sure there's someone at either Sky or Paramount that can disconnect the Cinema shared billing link but it's probably not something the majority of staff know anything about or have training on. It's pretty niche in the scheme of things.

Re: Paramount plus basic to standard
Interestingly I've just come across this, while trying to research @hankscorpio's dilemma. I've not seen it before.
"Upgrading tiers
The option to upgrade to other Paramount+ tiers will be available for Sky customers in the future."
https://www.sky.com/help/articles/sky-marketplace-subscribe-to-paramount-plus
No timescales, but good to know it's being progressed, perhaps.

Re: Paramount plus basic to standard
Sorry but that's not good enough. I'm not waiting around. I have shows on Paramount I want to watch with my current account and I'm not sitting through adverts while Sky make a profit off my Sky Cinema subscription.
I pay over €200 a month for Sky - it would be cheaper for me to go back to my basic package with Sky and upgrade my packages directly with the 3rd Party providers.
This is very shortsighted from Sky.
I'm still at my original stance, untether my Paramount account from Sky - or it's a full cancelation back to basic package for me.
Sky are losing out here, not me.

Re: Paramount plus basic to standard
I just spent over an hour on the phone with Sky, getting passed between four different departments, the last one being cancellations.
I wanted to cancel Sky Cinema, but because it's bundled with my Sports package, I can't remove it until my contract ends in December. The only way out is to pay an 'exit fee' (I can’t remember the exact term), which from what I understand, could mean paying the full amount of my entire package until December.
They also can't temporarily remove Sky Cinema to release my Paramount subscription and then sign me back up—it’s all locked in by their rigid system.
Now, I’m waiting for a call from a supervisor who might have more flexibility than the otherwise helpful staff I spoke to today, who were limited by these absurd policies.
I’ve completely lost trust in Sky to manage my subscriptions properly. If the supervisor can’t resolve this, I’ll cancel everything—my entire Sky package, 2TB Q box, two multiroom subscriptions, UHD, Cinema, all sports channels—the lot. They can take it all back.
I’ll pay whatever exit fee I need to and be done with Sky.
Five years as a customer, paying over €200 a month, and this is how they treat loyal subscribers.
What a disgraceful way to handle people’s hard-earned money.
The trust is completely shattered.

@Mark39 I would add that the likelihood of Sky offering such upgrades has been known since the change came in
at the bottom of This news article at change point it says
"just so you know we're not able to offer upgrades at the moment"
the bit in bold is clearly an indicator that it's been in the works since the change happened

Re: Paramount plus basic to standard
Says 16 January - it's end of March....
Regardless - it's stupid.
I'll talk with the supervisor and if it can't be resolved then I've a strongly worded email to various newspapers in draft - if it's not resolved I'll be sending the email.
Then I'll be canceling my Sky package in full.
Ridiculous.

Re: Paramount plus basic to standard
I think the fundamental cause of this issue is that Paramount + essentially rushed their ad tier to market, because they realised they were the last of the big streamers to offer such as teir. Between when Paramount + announced the change and when it was implemented wasn't exactly a long period which likely means that the paramount + development team only just had enough time to actually implement the new tiers and didn't have the luxury to also work on third party integrations ( like they would have for Sky) to update them accordingly for the tiers.
Working in the tech industry myself i've seen multiple examples when business decisions to rush out new features take precedent over the actual technicial implementation which normally leads to situations like this where changes are pushed live but the new features aren't supported in all use-cases.

Re: Paramount plus basic to standard
I want to watch a couple of things on Paramount+, but refuse to watch ads under any circumstances.
My usual plan for this type of service is to build up a watch list, pay for a one-month ad-free subscription (usually the highest level because I want 4K (HD as a minimum), watch everything I want and then cancel the subscription (e.g. for Amazon I have a Prime account anyway, but don't watch anything with ads and then upgrade to ad-free for one month every six months or so).
Of course my Paramount+ comes "free" with Sky Cinema, but now has ads so it's useless. There are some conflicting posts on this thread regarding if it's possible to cancel the free Paramount+ and then subscribe to a new account and login to that on the Sky app. Does that work or not? Or is the issue some have had that it has to be a new account (I'm not bothered about viewing history because I've hardly watched anything on it anyway).

Re: Paramount plus basic to standard
Pushing this onto Paramount is inexcusable. Sky knew about the change yet failed to give consumers an option to opt out of a situation they never agreed to. Given their long-standing relationship, Sky should have offered a cancellation period for Paramount+. Any changes from Paramount shouldn’t be forced onto Sky users without a choice.
Right now, I have no real option except to sever ties with Sky. Other than the only alternative of creating a new Paramount account, but that means losing all my shows and watchlist etc, as will everyone else on the account with their own user profiles.
This is completely unacceptable from both Sky and Paramount. Once again, it's the consumer who suffers—and that’s bad for business.
At this rate, I'm cancelling Sky and likely won’t return to Paramount either.
Treating customers this way is unforgivable.
