Movies added to palylist

A bit confused about adding movies to playlist. I dont subscribe to Sky Cinema so am talking about movies shown on channels like BBC, ITV, C4, Sky channels and Film Four etc.

On Tuesday Sky Showcase had a screening of Blacklight at 9pm which I believe is a Sky Cinema film. I think they do this on Saturday nights too. Show a film on Showcase which normally you would have to have SKy Cinema to see. I added this to the playlist but when I went to watch it it said it is SKy Cinema and I will have to subscribe to watch it.

This Saturday night Men In Black is on Sky Showcase. I have added it but it is saying it is SKy Cinema. Do I take that I can only see this when showing live on Saturday night and cant have the Showcase screening on my playlist to watch later.

I added a Film Four last night and it had disapperered this morning.

So whats going on? FIlms on C5 seem to be available ok and from ITV and BBC. Seems unfair that these Showcase screenings are not available to Stream subscribers to watch later.

@JEFF1102  You arw correct, any films on showcase will only add to playlist for later viewing on sky cinema,I think the idea of showcase showing films is to entice people to subscribe to the sky cinema package

@JEFF1102 this is a known issue as channels like Film 4 only buy broadcasr rights to movies while the streaming rights are held by a different company such as Amazon Prime. This was not an issue with systems that can make a local recording but is an issue with Glass/Stream.

Re: Movies added to palylist

I have had Sky Stream now for nearly a week and am mainly  quite impressed with it but this problem with Movies is quite frustrating. Tried adding some more films from various channels earlier.

The WItches on C5 only added one hour and missed out the second part even though I added both parts to the playlist.

A C4 film earlier sent me to Prime which i dont subscribe to.

So it sounds like any movies you have to see live or watch from start but as soon as the broadcast has finsihed it suggests other sources to get it from.

Correct. It's one of the big downsides of Stream/Glass compared to having a physical recording of a broadcast on a hard drive, as you would have with Q.

The other thing you miss out on with some channels, which is important to some people, is 5.1 audio. If you are directed to iPlayer or Channel 4's app for example to watch a movie after it has been broadcast (assuming streaming rights are available) you will ony get it in stereo. The original broadcast may well have been in 5.1 but this will only be available if you watch live.

Re: Movies added to palylist

will they ever sort out this problem with C5 movies split into two. You get the first half and the showbiz news but the second half doesnt record or go to playlist.  I was watching a bit of the film I wanted to add last night and could see the second half said added but there was no way to get it to go on the playlist.

Surely this can be sorted out.

Re: Movies added to palylist

Hi

having same problem.  If a movie is split in 2 by news etc then by trying to add the second part it then becomes 'double negative' and removes the film from the playlist.

other main problem for me is that over Christmas I added lots of films showing on ITV but on trying to play back I was directed to Sky Cinema which I don't subscribe to to watch on that platform.
is there any way around this?  Very very annoying.

Unfortunately not. For a lot of movies the broadcasters tend to only have the linear broad casting rights and not on-demand stresming rights to the films which is why the playlist tends to send you over to a Sky cinema or a Disney + app to view the films. The best to try and watch films that are broadcast on channels like bbc itv or c4 is to open their on-demand apps and go to the films category and hope they have the catch up rights for the films for a limited period.

the issue with the film split in two also isn't solvable. Inherently as the playlist feature works on the concept of programmed/films it expects a film to be broadcast in one go and not be split up u to separate programmes or parts which is exactly what some of these broadcasters do to allow themselves to have more ad-breaks in the film.
