When my mum has to pop out of the room for 10 mins to make her self some food she pauses her tv but when she comes back she loses the time her tv was paused for? As an avid soap watcher she's unable to leave her tv paused as she risks losing half her program? I don't no if this is how the box is programmed to be, a problem with the box or internet? As the old sky box would let you pause it for 30 mins before losing it! Any help would be greatly welcomed!
thanks in advance.

Unfortunately this appears to be by design: the 'old sky box' had a hard drive to spool paused content while Glass/Stream only has a small amount of on-board solid state storage for the task.
In addition, the power saving measures built into the new platforms are considerably stricter because they reflect more recent European regulation.

I now tend to rewind the programme a few minutes instead of pausing it. When I return to watch it I can RW or FF slightly to get to the correct position.
Not ideal but it does work for me.
