Is Sky Glass preferable to Sky Stream?

We have a TV on which we are missing many HD+ channels because of some problem with internalised cabling from the dish.

We have two other TVs with HD+ boxes but they run just fine.

We're considering a Sky streaming service to circumvent the cabling problem. Are the reported problems with Sky Stream avoided by going with Sky Glass?

They're the same thing really. Choose Sky Stream if you're happy with your current TV, or choose Sky Glass if you like that TV and in need of an upgrade.

What problems in particular are you referring to? There's a software update rolling out at the moment which may resolve them.

@VT001 bear in mind you can't have Sky+ together with Sky Glass or Stream.

Re: Is Sky Glass preferable to Sky Stream?

I've got Sky Glass 2, just had it, also got Sky Stream had that for 8 months, got to say the Glass tv is faster than steam & the picture on Glass is good after you play about with the settings.

Just bear in mind if you go with Sky Stream & Glass you have to have a robust Internet connection, if not they won't work properly, best is Ethernet but wifi does work but can be flakey, it depends how many people are using the Internet at the same time when your using Stream, you can try it for 31 days & if its not for you return it, give it a go,nothing to lose

Re: Is Sky Glass preferable to Sky Stream?

So the typical Sky Stream issues, e.g. lip synch, are also seen on Sky Glass?

We have error message 25 ("Your Sky+ isn't getting a satellite signal."). The other boxes are fine.

Re: Is Sky Glass preferable to Sky Stream?

@VT001 Which problems specifically are you referring to?  The internals of the Sly Stream pucks are pretty much the same as the internals of the Sky Glass sets. Both work over WiFi or an ethernet cable connected to a router. One is integrated into a TV Sky build and supply, the othr is in a box you attach to a TV you arelady own.

If you mean "re the reported problems with Sky Q avoided by going with Sky Glass?", then they are very different systems. One works by receiving TV signals through a satellite dish cabled up to a Sky Q box, with mini boxes connecting to the Sky Q box over WiFi. Sky Stream on the other hand has everything coming in via your broadband connection; if your broadband or wifi connection isn't capable of meeting the minimum speeds for Sky Stream, the experience of using & viewing Stream can be pretty bad.

There is also the fact that some third party, non-Sky channels that are on Sky Q are not on Sky Stream. It is worth checking that the channels you do watch are definitely available on Stream before switching.

If you go down the sky glass tv or the steaming  route  two things you should know first as soon as you activate  either  the tv or the puck you will have 30 days to send your sky q equipment  back, as you can not have both subscriptions at the same address, secondly  you will have two bills to pay the first month  after  your  stream/glass tv is activated you will  have the month for that to pay and the last month  of your sky q  subscription  aswell

OP doesn't have Sky Q, they have Sky+HD so nothing would need returning, though same applies regarding not being able to have both Sky+HD and Stream at the same time..

However, @VT001 , that does mean that the suggestion about trying Sky Stream and returning it in the cooling off period would also be problematic as you wouldn't be able to return to Sky+HD (though Sky Q would be an option).

While apparently quite common, it's not a universal issue (it's still being investigated by Sky). I get no lip sync issues.

The firmware on Glass and Puck is essentially the same, so if you get lip/sync issues on one, they're likely to arise on the other.
