I'm only getting 2-channel audio from a Panasonic 4K Blu ray player
Hi,
I posted a while back about a problem with my new Sky Glass 65" connected to a Sony UBP-X800M2 4K Blu ray player. The picture was fine but I only ever got 2-channel PCM audio delivered over the HDMI connection (HDMI socket 1 on the back of the Sky Glass TV).
Another forum member very kindly helped replicate my setup as he also had a Sony UBP-X800M2 Blu ray player. He confirmed exactly the same - regardless of every effort to change the settings in the Sony Blu ray player we only ever got 2-channel PCM audio.
Interestingly that person said that his 4K Apple TV device *would* play Dolby Atmos so the inferred takeaway was that it was an incompatibility between the Sky Glass and the Sony Blu ray player - the Sky Glass was telling the Sony that it would only accept 2-channel PCM.
I therefore bit the bullet and purchased a brand new Panasonic player and hooked it up yesterday. Frustratingly the Sky forum gives me an error message if I put the model number on the body here! But alas *exactly* the same problem. Try as I might I can only get 2-channel PCM audio when playing a DVD, Blu ray or 4K Blu ray. This is regardless of whether the audio output settings of the Panasonic are set to Bitstream or PCM (assuming that's "multichannel PCM).
- I've verified my HDMI cables are HDMI 2.1
- I've even tried completely different HDMI 2.1 cable
- I've put an HDMI switch in the middle, just to try and see if it's an incompatibility issue
- I've tried HDMI socket 2 on the Sky Glass
All of the above to no avail.
Does anyone in the form also have the same player, and if so could you possibly play a 4K blu-ray (heck, even a regular blu ray!) and tell me whether you're definitely getting multi-channel sound (by pressing the "Playback Info" button on the remote)?
Alternatively, if you're still reading this but don't have this specific Panasonic model, if you have *any* DVD or Blu ray player could you see if you can verify that you're definitely getting more than just 2-channel audio through the HDMI connection to Sky Glass?
Thanks!
Fork.
