I am sick to death of sky glass

To be honest I cannot wait for my sky glass tv to breakdown and i will then purchase a"normal" tv and go back to sky dish. This glass is a nightmare. Constantly having to reboot, re set, turn off at the wall because it keeps saying "waiting for programme to load" - there is nothing wrong with my internet connection or my internet speed. 😡😡😡😡

When you pay £700+ for a TV you should not have to keep rebooting or turning off etc

I agree that you shouldn't have to keep doing that. Can I ask though, are you connected via WiFi only or with an ethernet cable? If it's the former then it might be worth trying the latter because it provides a more stable connection. Also, how heavy is the demand for internet in your household? If you have multiple connections running at once it is going to cause these types of issues if the internet service is not sufficient enough to cope.

If you try connecting via ethernet, remember to turn off WiFi in the Glass settings.

Having a good local network broadband reach is key to Sky Glass/Stream.
Not just broadband speed to your house and router, but for your local network supply via wifi or ethernet, that can be affected in a busy household.

Best way to test is via a network speed test on each of your Sky Glass/Pucks;
Launch Netflix on your Sky Glass/pucks (you do not need to be logged into it, if you do not use netflix) and scroll down the left menu to Get help.
Choose Check Network.
Would suggest running the test a few times, over say an hour period during tests.
What is your speed for each Sky Glass/puck?

Also, it may be suffering from interference,, the Sky Glass/puck much like a Sky Q box can for some customers suffer from this at times. More often seen as an intermittent blip.
Not always a cure, but the following may help to resolve;

Make sure you have a good 6-8 inches free on all sides of a puck.
Do not stack the puck on top of any other device.
Best not to sit it on a glass shelf. Wood is generally the best.
Make sure the puck is in the open, not tucked away in a cabinet or sat directly behind the TV.

Make sure for Sky Glass/puck  you have no other devices that can cause interference closeby, like cordless phones, radiators, baby monitors, smart meter in home displays, microwaves and the like.

Plus, change you Sky Glass/pucks to the following recommended settings, set in Sky Glass/puck Settings>
Turn wifi OFF under Network if connected via ethernet.
Set Network standby mode to ON and Overnight power saving to OFF.

It is recommended at least once a week to do a settings restart (clears cache and the like);

Go to Settings>Systems Management>Resets & Updates
Select Restart device
Your Sky Glass/puck will perform a reboot. It will take a few minutes to complete

Re: I am sick to death of sky glass

Yeah Glass/Stream is pretty poor when all's said and done. They market it as a mainstream product for casual users and it should just work without having to mess with settings and ring customer service for help all the time. If streaming  is the future of television, Glass ain't it.

I constantly get "Loading, please wait" - merely to display the Home Screen. Infuriating. The Sky fanboys always blame 'slow broadband or using WiFi' as the main reasons for a crummy user experience. Most of the time it's simply not the case - it's the product itself that is substandard.

For context, I have gigabit FTTH and use UniFi prosumer networking equipment and I still get issues.

Re: I am sick to death of sky glass

I totally agree with you.
I decided to ditch Virgin and go to Sky in June 2025. Nothing wrong with that, but opted for a new 55" SKY Glass tv as well.

Oh dear, the biggest wrong move I have ever made. Nothing but trouble. Drops out constantly with the same on screen messages -"please wait for program to load" and then after crashing again the on screen message "there is a technical fault please try later"

Not acceptable at all. The Glass TV is not fit for purpose.
I am about to embark on some serious complaining to SKY!🤬🤬

@Lewbag57 while you certainly have some issues with yours, Sky Glass is not generally unfit for purpose. Mine works perfectly. Yours has all the hallmarks of an inadequate broadband connection. Do give Sky a call.
