How to dispose of a Sky Glass TV

Hi all – just looking for some advice. I'm planning to buy my way out of my Sky Glass v1 contract (only £78 left to pay), and purchase the v2.

What is the best way people have found to get rid of a Sky Glass v1 TV. Would Sky just take it back to refurbish or recycle?

Thank you

@mrwwt  There is no returns process for a Glass TV unless it was cancelled within the cool off period or faulty.  There is no trade in for Glass either

You would need to arrange disposal yourself.

Surely Sky have an obligation to dispose of the old set under the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) regulations if you're buying a new TV from them?

@BrynMeurig  nope, I'm sure if sky or any other company had an obligation then the facility would be available

Re: How to dispose of a Sky Glass TV

@mrwwt look forward to your reporting back... the legislation appears to be clear, but I wonder about the enforcement.

Otherwise, I would think that a sale on eBay et al would at least generate a few quid for you.

There might be someone/charity you can donate it to.

Other than that... taking it to your local recycling centre.

If this was the case then every TV manufacturer (let alone toaster kettle microwave fridge pc cooker manufacturer) would be forced to accept unwanted items.

If you have a Currys near you, they take any tech 'with a plug on it' bought in their  stores  or elsewhere.

Have dropped plenty in there for recycling, rather than taking to the council recycling.

Its normally just  a basket in the entrance, so no need to ask them.

Everytime I go in the store, there are all sorts in their basket, like toasters, vacuum cleaners, heaters, TVs, computers.

They do offer vouchers for some kit, quite limited.

@mrwwt

There are currently 103 gen 1 Sky Glass TVs on eBay, and that number is likely to rise. You could always stick it on there for pick up only and see if you get lucky. You might get a bit of cash to put towards a gen2.

Re: How to dispose of a Sky Glass TV

Thanks all – yes you can sell privatly or recycle it. Apparently Currys take them, you can drop them off in store and they'll give you a voucher and recycle it for you.

Officially there is no "upgrade programme" – I know we all pretty much knew that but as it was mentioned during the 2021 keynote, I think it's worth getting a response to it. The customer service rep was shocked when I mentioned it.

There's just no mechanism for it: inclusion in the launch event for the v1 turns out to have been a mistake.
