Glass Air connected to ethernet, why does it keep telling me to connect to WiFi?

I have had my new Glass Air connected via ethernet cable from day one, every time I turn it on (from standby) I get the blue 'no internet connection screen' I navigate from the screen straight to home (without trying to connect to our WiFi) and everything is fine. It just very annoying that I have to go through this screen rather than straight to the actual TV.

I've turned the WiFi off

I've done a reset on the network connection settings

I've switched power off at the wall to force a restart

How do I stop the TV from searching for WiFi and recognising the ethernet connection?

Hi @ShellC and welcome to the forum.  Have a look in settings > Startup & standby menu and ensure that Networked Standby mode is turned ON and overnight power saving is turned OFF.

When I first got Sky Glass a few years ago I used to get the same message when Glass turned on from standby.  Making the changes as mentioned above resolved the problem. Unlike you I was on WiFi and not Ethernet.

Hi @ShellC

@is there a reason you can't connect to WiFi instead of ethernet. Providing your signal strength and speed from WiFi are sufficient it should be fine .

also if you have network switches in your infrastructure this can cause some issues .

Hi

No, I could probably without speed issues... But I've seen a few posts on here that say they have a similar issue on power up... WiFi not connected screen but it is 😕

Is this only doing this at startup?

Just to be certain you are doing all the settings changes.

Change your Sky Glass/Stream devices to the following recommended settings set in Settings>

Set Network standby mode to ON and Overnight power saving to OFF
Turn wifi OFF under Network if connected via ethernet.

After making those changes or even doing a toggling off/on on/off, do a settings restart, just to make sure the options are set.

Is your ethernet cable from the Sky Glass/Stream going direct to your hub/router or through a powerline adapter or ethernet switch?

Some unmanaged Ethernet switches can cause intermittent connection issues with Sky devices.

By the way, please refrain from doing a factory reset of your Sky Glass/Stream devices, unless asked by Sky and you ar on a chat or call with Sky at the time. Doing the factory reset can cause some account issues, that only Sky can resolve.

Re: Glass Air connected to ethernet, why does it keep telling me to connect to WiFi?

Yes, it's only on start-up

Networked Standby mode is turned ON

overnight power saving is turned OFF

Wi-Fi connection is OFF

I've done the network reset and i've done the power off at the wall reset.

The workaround, that i've seen suggested beofre, to turn it on using the Home button rather than the power button doesn't work either.

It's so frustrating.

There is a known bug, check this thread what to do. I know you say you've tried it but it does work. Make sure you turn on the TV with the power button if the error occurs turn off with the power button, give it 10 seconds or so and turn on via the home button.
