Fixings for the wall bracket mount for a Sky Glass TV 55"

I have purchased Sky Glass TV and the appropriate wall mount specified by Sky.  It needs some serious bolts (probably M10 80mm) but the mounting instructions give no guidance as to whether these are suitable for the weight (27kgs) nor how many to use.  Can anybody help me?

Hi @MikeinWiltshire

Sky don't recommend any wall mount however they sell their own. Do you mean you have purchased a Gen 2 wall mount from Sky?

Sky recommend that you use a professional installer. However they provide the guide here: https://www.sky.com/help/articles/sky-glass-wall-mounting-guide

In that guide the type of screws and wall plugs and the amount is different based on the type of wall it is being installed to. See the "check the wall type and fixings" section.

Typically the fabric of a wall will fail long before multiple centimetre thick steel rods...

It's up to the user to verify whether their chosen fixing method is going to be safe and secure: Sky specifically doesn't define this because there are too many variables involved (solid granite block or an inch of teak panelling being somewhat different in load-bearing capacity to damp 70s plasterboard or medieval lime and horsehair render ; )

I've never really understood the idea behind wall mounting TV's. For me the potential for disaster i.e. the failure of the mount causing the breaking of the TV is just far too great a risk! Far less stressful to have it on a stand - for me anyway!

I'm the same - also who wants the additional hassle of having to remove the TV from the wall and the remount it when moving homes as well.

I know it can free up floor space, which in some homes is at a premium - it's just too stressful for me!
