The USB-C port is the data and power connection for the Sky Live camera - it's not intended for any other purpose.

Re: Connect surround system

so a port that could have done what other tvs can do but doesn't this was a failed design from the start and now they just make it look as good as they can and ship it too you mine is going back as it can't do anything my older TV and any other TV new or old can do it lacks connections that are useful lacks any innovative ideas at all and to be honest is a step backwards recoding being gone means you have to be here to watch what you want or subscribe to a 3rd party to stream it it's a money making scam that needs rethinking if they want this to be the future for sky

@vodker1  I appreciate it is subjective and on many of your points I entirely agree with you.  The Glass TV was certainly not cutting edge by any stretch of the imagination.

I moved from Glass to Stream nearly three months ago and don't regret my decision at all.  My Samsung TV & soundbar coupled with a Stream puck is absolutely brilliant and has a picture quality which would be hard to beat.  On Sky Q I was a prolific recorder but even so IMHO the ability to watch what I want when I want far outweighs the fact that I can't record programmes on Stream.  Obviously some people want to record and keep their recordings for posterity which is something I never did (once watched it was deleted).

In a nutshell, I wasn't that keen on Glass but love my Stream and wouldn't even consider reverting to Sky Q.

Re: Connect surround system

There is only one way to connect with 5.1 with HDMi,

you need to buy different type of HDMi which will support sky glass, there is a problem with all sky glass they don't support high quality hdmi, try to buy cheap and local one, and they will work,

i bought 5 hdmi cables cheap one, and only2 cables work on it.

it will definitely help.

Re: Connect surround system

fair enough and appreciate your answer but for me a sound bar will never ever compete the 5.1 and 7.1 surround sound so if I can not get it working with the TV its going back

Sorry but this is entirely irrelevant to the issue here. An external amplifier can only be connected to Sky Glass if it has ARC or eARC capability which, as @vodker1 has discovered, their amp does not. So any type of HDMI cable, be it worth a fiver, a tenner or a hundred quid, will not work

@vodker1 will be much better off returning the Glass TV & buying a much more versatile smart TV which has all the appropriate connections necessary for their circumstances. A Sky Stream puck can be attached to any TV to give the same Sky streaming experience as you would get on Glass, but with much more versatility.

Re: Connect surround system

Same situation different equipment here, I would like to connect my Sky Glass to an older Sony amp, with no HDMI, connection options being standard red:white audio or optical audio. Is there such a cable or adapter to achieve this? Any suggestions gratefully appreciated.

@fuccawallaboobie

Not straightforward: you would need to use an active (powered) ARC or eARC device on the Glass HDMI port #2 and then take the output from that device to an input on the sound system.

That looks like it would do the trick.
