An explosion occurred inside my new remote.

I took the batteries out and checked them and they show a full charge as they should be as new original batteries in the new remote supplied.

The remote appears to be working normally.

I want to know what can cause an explosion and what problem it could have caused.

Personally I would request a replacement remote from Sky. Any electronic device which 'explodes' does not sound entirely safe. Don't leave it unattended near anything flammable.
