Re: Ad skipping

Difference with Prime is you can pay to have ads removed - I think it's £2.99.

I pay Sky over £20 and get ads, so I paid an exter £5, still get ads but they don't skip on sky channels they fast forward. Contracts up soon so I'm ditching sky, don't really watch much any more anyway.

Re: Ad skipping total scam

Hi, Most TVs can record if you have a Freeview aerial, so I have added a hard drive to my TV and recorded all ITV, CH4 & CH5 programs to skip through all the adverts. 😀

Re: Ad skipping

I find it really frustrating that you still have to fast forward through the ads when you are paying extra. I can understand for non Sky shows you've added, but it used to be that Sky on demand shows we're removed of ads.

Re: Ad skipping

@mrandyc UHD versions of sky programmes usually have zero ads. Do you have the ultra add on ?

Sky Stream x 2
LG C2 OLED 55inch
Sonos Playbar
Virgin 1 Gig
Virgin Stream Box
Xbox X
Apple TV 4K
Amazon 4K Firestick Roku 4K Google Chromecast

Re: Ad skipping

No UHD. I object to them selling you UHD TV and then expecting you to pay extra for the privilege of watching it.

Re: Ad skipping

One little work around I found is to use sky go. Not all will be able to doe this.

If I watch an episode on sky go there are breaks but no ads. What I mean is you get the program logo then it continues without any ads. However you need to play this on a smartphone or tablet and then connect to your tv. I watched all of the House of Dragons series worked a treat. I've not tried any other chanels.

Re: Ad skipping

Sky has very much fallen behind modern streaming. It's just boomerthink from start to bottom.

Things like ad skipping, and the old con of paying more for "HD", they really don't seem to understand that the more **bleep** they pile on to the monthly bill, the more incentive people have to leave and never come back.

Glass was a complete waste of time and money, I got rid of my gen 1 and no longer even watch broadcast TV.

If I pay for a premium service I don't expect to be seeing unskippable adverts and no way to scroll forward.

Sky's boomerthink continues to run on this ad-based model where they make watching TV worse unless you cough up more.

It definatly doesn't seem to occour to them that people will simply not place an order and abandon the basket as all these little amounts add up to extortion.  The cluelessness of attempting to push people on to highly expensive fat ugly TV's which only run Sky's streaming software is apparently lost on them.

The software shouldn't require a "TV", or a "streaming box", it should be a downloadable app for all TV's. Trying to trap people in a walled-garden platform really is the death rattle of a a legacy broadcaster which only the hardest core of fanbois and fangirls are interested in shows how far they have fallen.

Sky has gone from being my go-to service wherever I live, for 30+ years, to feeling insulted and cheated by criminals.

The future of TV isn't TV, and sky don't even offer a standard streaming service, they're obsessed with liniar TV because that's the only thing they can sell adverts on, while trying to shoehorn adverts into streaming as well.

For  £30+ per month as a starter we exect to never see adverts again, not have them forced upon us worse than linar TV with a set top box recorder unless we couhgh up more money, and even then it doesn't elimiate them.

I suspect Sky knows their days are numbered. Like most people under 50 I now get my content from a streaming apps with no adverts, ever, and I couldn't give a phuk about boomer channels like "National Geographic" and "UK Gold". If I want to see a documentary on the assasination of JFK or why a plane crashed then I've got millions of hours of on-demand content on YouTube, with no ads, and it costs me £5 a month.

Sky is a dinosaur, a cluless dinosaur in it's death rattle, trying to compete in a world and to a generation they simply don't understand.

@xx82h

You are right in a lot of what you say. Sky were one time innovators bringing to the UK a way of watching TV in a way never truly envisaged past over aerial transmissions and for that consumers were willing to pay. These days multi channel TV is the norm and very soon streaming will be the norm too.

Currently Sky are at that transition point supporting satellite whilst push the move to stream and many people will inevitably remain with Sky and switch, it is the easier option.

TV these days is just like car insurance you have to put in the leg work every 12 months to find the best deal or sit back and accept the increase 🤔

in reality Sky, Virgin, EE are a one stop shop it's easier to go with one of these but actually you don't need any of them it is far cheaper to subscribe to streaming services as and when required without being locked in.

Sky are champions at this but they all do it entice you with a £15 deal sounds good 👍🏼 but you want AD free oh I want to watch in another room of course I need minimum HD but UHD is preferable and now you're at circa £40 without sports etc. Yet many sign up and in a 12 month realise hang on I'm paying nearer £65 😳

For the older generation not all mind it can be confusing and a TV that contains Sky is appealing not withstanding it's restrictions within subscription and near uselessness outside of subscription.

It's always horses for courses die hard fans will never switch regardless but experiencing what's outside of Sky can be a breath of fresh air and that monthly direct debit looks a lot more appealing too 😉

Could it be it's not just ADS that need skipping 🤭

Re: Ad skipping

Yes, and I notice the Paramount+ that comes with Sky Cinema now contains adverts you cannot skip.

They want to milk you.

Being a Sky customer is like being in an abusive relationship.
