Re: ALLM causing lag spikes/screen jumps every 5 seconds

The 'judder reduction for apps' is the only method in the Entertainment OS Sky Glass uses, which allows the user to switch between 50 or 60hz.

I don't know if Sky have ever clarified if the panel/OS is capable of automatically switching to the correct frame rate from external sources such as games consoles and Blu-Ray players. Can it receive and correctly display 24fps from a Blu-Ray for example?

How do we enable it? Can't find it in settings. It would likely fix this issue if as we think it's the fact the TV is staying at 50hz

I don't own a Glass TV but on Entertainment OS on the Stream puck it's Settings > Picture> Judder reduction for TV apps.

It's unlikely to affect HDMI inputs on Glass though.

Re: ALLM causing lag spikes/screen jumps every 5 seconds

Ah ok cheers.  Yeah this issue is with the glass TV, my pucks fine upstairs. Glass seems to default to 50hz, unless you're in a game at 60hz & unplug the TV, then restart & it opens at 60hz, but any changes like turning over or even opening the Xbox dashboard & everything resets tom50hz & causes judder. It's horrible.

There's very settings in the TV itself & we just got the sky max router too & that's even more limited in choices, like can't even change WiFi channels, turn on.off upnp & other missing basic settings.

Re: ALLM causing lag spikes/screen jumps every 5 seconds

@Daniel-F Think we know the issue.

TV is set to 50hz, & runs at 50hz for everything. Consoles, new gen anyway, are 60hz, this causes judder every 4-5 secs. By setting up your game, then unplugging the TV, turning it back on, then going straight to the game, you're getting 60hz & no judder. But then doing anything that involves switching the screen to something else other than the game you're in, resets it to 50hz & iyoure in judder hell again.

Nothing in the TV settings allows judder reduction & the TV seems incapable of switching to 60hz itself despite it clearly be able to run at 60hz.

Hopefully this is fixable? Worried about damaging my TV as I'm turning it on & off at the plug 5-6 times a day.

Re: ALLM causing lag spikes/screen jumps every 5 seconds

Sounds like it yeah. Tbch we got glass because we'd just moved house so were low on funds & our old TV broke en route so we saw glass & thought why not, pay over a few years. Didn't maybe research as we should have, it's overpriced & mid range at best. For TV it's fine, picture is acceptable, not amazing but good enough, sound bar is very good TBF, but gaming, my only hobby, has become grating.

You'll get a much better TV for less, especially with black Friday looming, if you have the funds available. I know we don't for a while & like I said, it's acceptable outside the judder issue which hopefully they'll fix soon.

Hi all,

Just to update that the issue was successfully replicated recently & support teams are now working to fix.  I'll keep you posted when I know further details on this one.

As listed by multiple users for a workaround.  Whilst your console remains switched on, restart your TV.  Once the TV is restarted, immediately go to your game. If you from there leave go to a different menu the issue may return.

Thank you for your patience whilst support teams work to resolve this.

Thanks for the update @Daniel-F . Most people fully understand things take time to fix, to know it's being worked on is very important, so it's much appreciated 👍

Cheers

Great stuff.  Glad it's been replicated because it is a pain to explain and even demonstrate sometimes.

Thanks for the update @Daniel-F, it's much appreciated and will save a lot of frustration and repeat posts from people experiencing this issue.

Hopefully the turnaround for the fix doesn't take too long.

Re: ALLM causing lag spikes/screen jumps every 5 seconds

The problem for me is I've only had my 65 inch glass for 2 weeks. I'm within my rights still to return it if I'm not happy with it. I don't want to be stuck with a TV with this issue that may or may not get fixed as these tvs are not exactly cheap. It's a big expense for something that we don't actually know will get fixed. So I think a return is the only option for me

You can return Glass within 31 days of delivery without issue. There is a charge of £25 as a returns fee. It used to be free but not since Sky changed the courier company they use.

TBH, if gaming is important to you then you're much better off with a true smart TV with proper HDMI 2.1 features, ALLM, VRR, etc. There are many available at excellent prices during the Black Friday sales. John Lewis and Richer Sounds offer free 5 or 6 year warranties on all their TVs too, plus if you still want Sky TV you can just add a Stream puck to them for the same experience you get on Sky Glass.

Re: ALLM causing lag spikes/screen jumps every 5 seconds

I have just got a 5m65 inch sky glass. I have also encountered this issue. Glad to see it has ben replicated and a fix is being worked on. For now at least the work around is there. Hopefully we see an update sooner rather than later.

Re: ALLM causing lag spikes/screen jumps every 5 seconds

Yeah I'm just a little worried about unplugging my TV several times a day but I'm sure it'll be fine.
