Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out more@glencat An aerial has nothing to do with Sky, you have been told this a few times, there is no point there even being an aerial as your Sky Q box cannot use this, there has to be a DISH!!
Aerials are for Freeview (Terrestrial TV) Satellite Dishes are for Sky Q/Sky+HD.

I understand your scepticism about what the engineer coming on 17th will do, then! I can only think that they're going to run an aerial cable from the communal setup to your flat, though I would have thought that would be the responsibility of your management team. I can ask Sky to contact you via the forum's online live chat service to see if they can shed any light on it, if you wish, or if you're registered with Sky Accesibility it might be easier to speak with them?

that would be good if you can arrange chat through forum. thx

Posted by a Sky employeeThanks for escalating to us @SDR
I have read the thread carefully and I do not think the appointment on 17th is going to end in the desired outcome @glencat We don't install any aerials or cabling to aerials on MDU properties. The engineers don't even carry aerials on the vans as they're not part of Sky setups. As everyone is saying, you need a Sky satellite dish.
I'd suggest asking your neighbours how they are receiving Sky to their flats so you can get the engineer on 17th to replicate this setup. Usually we would use the pre-existing communal dish that the management company already has installed and we would either connect you in a cupboard or using a power inserter. If none of those things are available then I am not entirely sure how the management company are expecting Sky to be installed.
Our engineers can only install dishes at standard domestic heights, with permission from the property owner.

thank you for your reply. Can I just confirm then, when MDU engineer told me in front of witness that I needed an aerial on roof and that would enable Sky to be installed he was telling lies. Also when service centre rang me 5 minutes later and I was on phone for a long time and she said that on the 17th the engineer was coming to fit an aerial NOT a dish she was also telling lies

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out moreThis all depends on your interpretation of the conversations, if when you were initially talking to these people you used the term aerial instead of dish they may have been humouring you so as not to confuse you further by correcting your mistake
My mum calls the dish an aerial so it is not uncommon and the people you have spoken to deal with a lot of people of varying levels of technical knowledge

Posted by a Sky employeeSky does not install aerials, if the engineer used this word then that would be confusing indeed but we have never called our dishes aerials. Perhaps the engineer has something additional they are willing to do but it is not part of our standard practice to install 3rd party equipment which other engineers can not and likely will not touch. Unfortunately the only way you will find this out is on the day.
It won't do any good calling and speaking to our tech team as they will give you the same info I am giving. The team who called you would have been our engineers support team who rebook appointments for engineers where they cannot complete them on the day.
They will just rebook as instructed by the engineer and don't question them. So it is possible the team contacted you and confirmed what you were saying to themn or even used the same terminology as the enigneer if they did indeed say aerial instead of dish, but they do not make the decisions about what the enigneers install.

I did not use any expression aerial or otherwise, the engineer did All i did was listen. so how could MY. interpretation be wrong. It was not a conversatiion it was him telling ME what I needed to do Also he told my neighbour who put it in notes on his phone and further engineer said to make sure it was a skyq ready aerial not just sky. - all this was recorded verbatim

|P.S. It is not for me to have the level of tech knowledge required it is the engineers
