Look at Apple TV. Smaller sizes, less intrusive. Millions use subtitles they're very popular.
Apple is an international company with many more subscribers in many more countries not just UK and ROI like Sky, it is not fair to compair the two companies

From what I know the software people are acutely aware that people want an improvement in this area. If there was any change at Sky's side of things, it wouldn't be to make things worse. It would be to catch up with what competitors have been offering for many years.
I'm aware that some native streaming apps (eg Amazon Video, Netflix) give control over font style, size, colour, transpareny. But they do not let you control position on the screen, so don't expect that to be offered. The position is a decision made by the subtitler during the creation task, to avoid text appearing on top of people's faces , or other captions etc. This is why in some scenes you will see the subtitles move up to the top of the screen briefly.
Controlling the position on the screen is a nice feature but its usefulness is limited by the fact that the non-transparent subtitles take up such a massive proportion of the screen.
And good to know the sky software people are aware of the problem but its gone on far too long. Sky might not have the global reach of Apple or Netflix but they certainly charge UK customers more than enough to justify spending the time and resources needed to come up with a suitable replacement.
I was a long-term customer for over 20 years and have now cancelled my subscription.

We are now in 2025, and the subtitles are still huge! It makes family viewing difficult, as I am hard of hearing I need the subtitles but the rest of the family don't, and none of us can enjoy the programme as we can't see it. I just switched from BT 2 days ago, and this, and the fact I can't record, is making me regret my position and I intend to use my 14 day cooling off period and go back to BT even though it's more expensive.
Although, I don't know why I even posted this as I'll most likely get no response.

When will SKY Q offer the availabilty to change the font size & colour contrast on any any subtitles either using the Accessability option or when there are just random subtiltes in a program. for example the during The Lockerbie Documentary I was struggling to read the parts of the series that were in subtiltes (Forgien Speaking) due to bad contrast & too small for my poor eysight? Most other platforms these days offer this option.

I got an answer from Sky that an update was in the works but that was two years ago and it's obvious I was being fobbed off. I have to switch to the provider, iPlayer, ITVX, Netflix etc to get configurable captions which is something users expect in the 21st century not legacy teletext. Enough is enough! I'll be leaving Sky when this contract finishes because I mainly watch the FTA channels and if I'm having to leave the very convenient Sky interface to to watch them on Apps why pay the premium for a dated, non premium service?

Hi, I've submitted a reply to another user but as you are a Sky employee probably better to reply to you. I'm a bit deaf and always need subtitles. The legacy teletext subtitles defy the claim 'better with Sky' as they are huge not in the same league as the configurable subtitles of all the streaming services and look ridiculous on large screen 4K televisions.
it is a matter that means I will be leaving Sky after 15 years because I mainly watch FTA channels and in spite of loving the Sky interface I have to switch to the apps to get small captions which begs the question why pay a premium for a second rate service?

You haven't tagged who you're replying to so no idea who that's intended for. I'm a customer like you and as my signature underneath my post states I'm NOT a Sky employee.

I started one of the discussions on this issue a long time ago and am still frustrated by Sky's lack of apparent effort to do anything. I sometimes use my IPad for viewing programmes and it's sub titles are perfectly proportioned and positioned at the foot of the screen. Why cannot that be the case for the TV?
