As @Annie+UK alluded to, WPS is the easiest way to connect a Sky box to the Internet. It means pressing the WPS button on the front panel of his Sky box and then within 30 seconds or so pressing the WPS button on his new router.
On my BT router, the WPS button is on the left hand side, but it may not be the same for his.
