Sky News App (not live streaming) Excessive Ads.

When viewing any news item video on the Sky news app. I cannot watch a video without getting a 20 second advert. So if I decide to choose one news item video I get a 20 second advert. Then if I go to another news video I get another 20 second advert. So if I was to watch all the news videos available on the app at that time I'd have to endure an advert each time I play the video.

This never used to occur on the News app previously and I do expect the odd advert but this is pure commercial overkill on Sky's part.

I also want to stress that I'm not talking about the adverts that are shown as a part of live streaming the live sky news show throughout the day. Though, when you do go to access the live news stream being broadcast, no matter what, you'll get thrown a 20 second advert before the live stream is accessed. Funny as then you may join the live news atream in the middle of a news break/advert cycle.

I appreciate you will run adverts on the live news stream but it is excessive use on the news app itself.

I like sky news but I often won't catch up on the videos due to the ads.

This is not exactly providing and good news service is it.

I wouldn't object if I maybe had to watch one advert of 20 seconds each 30 minutes of use or staggered over a period of usage.

Every video is just nuts.

Very frustrated sky news fan.

I totally agree with the comment on too much ad's on the Skynews app.  It is out of order and has to stop.

The worst of it is, as you scroll down to the bottom of the news feed, it jumps on to fake news stories that you think are live Skynews stories!

I'd happily pay a small subscription per month to view Skynews without any ad's!

Sky News app covered by advertising

Irritating issue on my iPhone - the majority of my news stories on my Sky News App get covered, always by the same advertisment which has been going on for a few weeks now. I can only read the few lines at the bottom of my screen on opening an item, being forced to scroll for perhaps half to three quarters of each report, before the app starts to scroll up. As far as I can tell it is for something called Airwallex and a reference to McLaren (there's part of a formula one car with McLaren partly visible) but that's a guess as the ad itself isn't complete. It fills 3/4 of the screen with a band across the top and another down the right hand side with a large blank white square in the remaining section and only parts of text visible. There is no symbol anywhere to indicate that it can be closed. Even the link, which I assume says 'discover' Airwallex is only half visible and does nothing. Whatever it is, I have absolutely no interest in it other than not seeing it. Other ads just roll with the pages and I can cope with that. Someone needs to fix it as if anything else it reflects poorly on McLaren and their association with it. Any suggestions gratefully received. Maybe I should just delete the app and go elsewhere.

@Bill-I-Am

Does the same happen if you use the Sky News website via your web browser instead ?

Re: Sky News app covered by advertising

Hi, doesn't seem to - I can't see the ad in any of the 10 news items I just checked. That's a bonus!

Thanks everyone for your comments/advice.

it seems as if someone on high may have noted my annoyance as today the ad has not made an appearance in any of the news stories I have looked at. Hopefully problem solved.

Re: Sky News App (not live streaming) Excessive Ads.

Dear Sky,

As you will notice. The Sky news app is bombarding people with excessive ads. Actually the functionality of the app is overruled by these ads. When people are on the go and want to dip in fast, they don't want to endure an ad every time the want to view a news video.

Previously I followed your suggestion to feed this information to apps@sky.com

This still continues after doing this and it's very apparent that revenue is all that dictates this news app.

I think there needs to be a balance as at the moment it just stops me using the sky news app or closing it down when an ad appears. So really the advertising is turning users away.

I would suggest that someone at sky looks at this as I will not be repeating this query again through the email you suggested. Would be interesting to know if other sky news users have submitted also through apps@sky.uk
