They may give you a reference number and if they believe there is a realistic chance of tracing the culprit they will pass it to the most appropriate police force.

Thanks for your comments. This has been a nightmare trying to get somebody to handle it. Action Fraud are a charity that collates complaints then hands them on to relevant police force. They do not cover Scotland. Relevant police force investigates then hands over to HMRC HMRC have no system of taking complints direct. Police Scotland do not accept that the false madates to claim somebodies tax rebate as a criminal offence. Trading standards are involved so will leave it to them. When asked scammers sent me a copy of the false mandate. On the bottom it had an IP address they said was the site we used to fill in false mandate. Just wanted to know who it was. Check on Google said it was SKY site

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out more@Mackie1 I'm sorry but i'm confused, who is sending you the IP, the scammers or HMRC?
And why would these scammers be helping you to identify themselves?
Unless the scammers have all relevent info to access your HMRC account HMRC would not be able to send a refund to them.
When you log into the HMRC website you need to provide verification by means of a text or email code before you can access your account and request a refund.

Yes, I know that but didn't know you were in Scotland.

That's if the scammers weren't telling porkies. Not sure why you and the alleged scammers are conversing directly.

Pushing the scammers as far as posible to get what inforamtion I can get from them. Exchange of emails gives me full headers so authorities can track address of pc. Scammers sent me a copy of the fasle mandate they had submitted. It was that document that gave the IP address of where they aallegedly got an IP adress for me. Was not my IP adress and suspect it was theirs for the web site they used to collect data. Life times expereince in law enforcement makes you wise and crafty!! One of the scammers even phoned the hiuse froom a mobile and did not hide the number. That sioort of information all helps investigators.
Scotland has another charity that handles and triages complaints to Trading Standards. So many of these midle men no wonder it takes so long to get complaints investigated. Police Scotland were to get back to me 10 days ago. I am still waiting!!
Thanks for your help.

Why would a scammer give you any information that would help you identify them?

Becasue some of them are thick. Some employ youing kids who are not fully aware of the scam. Yiu can get email headers, phine numbers and if lucky adreses where they operate from. Also ask them for copies of dicuments. In my case they did send one that proved our fraud case. Even found out that the scamers company registered office at Companies House was a "hot seat" in an office block in Bury.
By reading their website we found out ties to other companies and their directors. The more info yoou have the better itn is for the enforcement bodies. Also the media if they decide to run with it

Iit is all strange to me. One of their mebers of staff phoned my wife today. We have no idea why. The phone number they used is registered to Waalton Bridge in Bury.
Trying to get it investigated is a nihgtmare. We live in Scotland but the actuall crime was commited in Greater Manchester Police area. Manchester Police say we have to report it to Police Scotland who in turn say that they do not treat this scam as criminal offence as in their minds we have not lost money. Trying to get to trading standards up heree means through about two or three different "triage" organisations. No wonder they get away with it!
