Can't access certain sites

This is so weird. As of just a few days ago, there are a few websites which I can access fine when using https, but can't accessing using http. The sites I've identified this with are ones I own, so I've been able to check that the problem is not on the server. Also, I can access the sites (http and https) using 4G and other connections, just not from my Sky broadband connection at home.

I am also able to access ports other than 80 using http (to get at cpanel, for example) so it seems like it's specifically just port 80 being blocked.

I've checked all the obvious things: there are no sites blocked, and broadband shield is turned off. Anyone know what might be happening?

Thanks!

@Ben31415 if it's not your browser blocking them, as @GD1 suggests, try turning off your broadband Hub at the plug for about a half hour. It might be an issue with your public IP address, and doing that should result in you being assigned a new one.

@Ben31415  What browser are you using, what is the message on the HTTP sites?  HTTP is an insecure way of accessing sites and many browsers now block.  So may not even be a Sky issue.

Like you I'm a customer here, Sky Employees are clearly identified as such.

Re: Can't access certain sites

It's an ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED error. "The site can't be reached". It happens in multiple browsers on different platforms (Mac, windows, android, chrome book, Linux). Agree about http, but it seems an odd way for that to manifest...

Thanks!

Re: Can't access certain sites

Was this resolved? I have exactly the same problem. I currently have a non public website without an SSL cert. Only sky broadband users can not access it.

Presumably yes, as there's a post marked as the answer.

Re: Can't access certain sites

FYI, had the same issue - changed the DNS servers from Sky to Google and this worked... details on how to do this can be found here:
