Status: Lady, betrothed to Lucerys Velaryon
Traits: Sweet, loves to dance. Her greatest desire is to have a dragon, but this never comes to fruition.
Famous quote: (on Vhagar) "She was mine to claim.”
Family: Daughter of Daemon and Laena Targaryen, granddaughter to Rhaenys, twin sister to Baela.
Lady Rhaena Targaryen, also known as Rhaena of Pentos and Rhaena Corbray, was one of the twin daughters of Prince Daemon Targaryen and Lady Laena Velaryon. Her older twin was Baela Targaryen. Born small and sickly in Pentos, Rhaena was named after her maternal grandmother, Princess Rhaenys Targaryen. At half a year old, Rhaena and her sister Baela sailed from Pentos to Driftmark with their mother, Laena Velaryon, and was presented at court by her father, Prince Daemon.
Runt of the Litter
As young and sickly girls, the twins had been attached at the hip, and totally indistinguishable. However, by the age of sixteen, they had grown into their own distinct appearances. Rhaena possessed a slender and graceful figure, while Baela was lean and quick, with hair as short as a boy's. Rhaena found joy in dancing, while Baela's passion lay in riding and flying.
Despite her overtly feminine appearance and interests, Rhaena’s deepest wish was to claim and ride a dragon of her own. Though she received a dragon egg, the hatchling was unhealthy and died soon after hatching. Later, Rhaena received another egg from Syrax's clutch and prayed fervently for a dragon to match her sister's, Moondancer.
Dance of the Dragons
With the blessing of King Viserys I Targaryen, Rhaena was betrothed to her cousin, Prince Lucerys Velaryon, as he had been named as heir to Driftmark. Rhaena agreed to the union out of a sense of duty but, however well-intended, the marriage never came to be as Lucerys lost his life in a heated dragon-fight with Aemond and Vhagar.
