the security settings has blocked my wife acccessing my email account by wife as comapred to previous times.....this is causing problems as sometimes she needs accesss to assure nothing important is missed when i am away and cant access emails etc. i have failed to remove the security settings due to lack of knowledge and basic understanding of **bleep** the email access works.
everytime i access my email account i, the security settings have to provide a code to my phone before allowing me access

And what is happening when your wife enters the code sent to your/her phone ?
To turn off 2FA sign in with the recovery code so at the login select "can't sign in with the code" link. You'll then be asked for the recovery code.
When you signed up to 2FA you were given a recovery code so if you didn't make a note of it then check the email you were also sent.

Your best bet is to turn off 2 step login. To do that, select the 'can't log in with code' (or similar wording) link at the login screen, then enter your Recovery Code when prompted.
Your Recovery Code was emailed to you when you set up 2 step login.

Sounds like have a 2 step verification or have an authenticator app if you can find any of these in your settings could try adjusting them but sure on yahoo but Gmail in the security section of manage my account can turn 2 step verification off or set it to enter password or whichever security setting is easiest for you to log into your email account would be for you should offer options sounds like you have send code to phone as a verification step out one of them sure yahoo will have a similar option under security or data and privacy that kind of thing how it helps for that and other things I was looking at the other replies and as you said you aren't up on tech the responses were full of acronyms that I don't think most people including myself know what they are😁
