Yahoo isn't safe. Blocking messages just doesn't work and I don't want to use it any more.

I have been with Sky for many years.  I find that Yahoo isn't safe, and frustrated about blocking messages you don't want. For some time I have been getting hundreds of messages from betting sites and I have never bet in my life.  My wife recently died, and I tried a few dating sites, and now I’m deluged with pornographic offers from numerous sites, most of which I never invited. Clearly, many of these are prostitutes.  THEY ARE UNWANTED, UNINVITED AND EMBARRASSING.  I've tried to block them, unsubscribe and delete all.  Nothing works. What is the point of offering "blocking" and then doing nothing?  I am now being offered penis enlargements! I'm 82 yoa and couldn't care less about the size of my penis. I have therefore closed my sky email account, and I'm using iCloud, which does everything and responds to actions requested.

Sorry for your loss.

As you have discovered blocking these mails is not the way to go so you need to start reporting them as spam so the system learns to automatically move them to your junk/trash and bin folders and keep them out of the inbox.

This applies to any email service you use because if you get a junk email then use the report as spam option.

@Zimmer2 just a cautionary note: blocking emails rarely works for long, because you're blocking a specific email address. A spammer will simply send more emails from a slightly different address.

Don't 'unsubscribe' from emails which may be from a spammer. Doing so simply tells an unscrupulous spammer that your email account is active and encourages them to send more, or sell your address to another spammer.

and received some advice and a query you didn't answer.

Sky|Yahoo email is safe (as much as a free email system can be) and blocking does work, but not in the way you expect. It blocks specific email addresses, not types of email.

Unfortunately, once your email address is known to scammers/spammers, it will be shared between them and you will get loads of spam, but the Yahoo spam filter works well for me and they never reach my inbox, so is that where you see them on your Sky email?

Deeply sorry to hear about your loss, and email hassles are definitely something you do not need on top of that.
