Unable to set up email account outlook

Hi, my wife's email has stopped working on Outlook. Password matches her sky email login. The error message I get is We couldn't log on to your incoming IMAP server. Please check your email address and password and try again.

any ideas how to resolve. My email is working fine

thanks Gary

She probably needs to use an app password in place of her normal Sky password at log in. See Sky's help here which includes a link to generate an app password.

Re: Unable to set up email account outlook

I have the same problem!!

I was having difficulty with my sky emails.  A very nice Sky helper on the phone, told me to delete my sky email from outlook, which I did.  But now it won't let me add it back in.  The message is the same as Garywsy.   We couldn't log on to your incoming IMAP server. Please check your email address and password and try again.

The solution is likely to be the same as previously posted, then.

Re: Unable to set up email account outlook

No. I tried that.
When I go into Add account, advanced set up which box do I choose?  IMAP, Outlook, POP etc?

Starting from the beginning use these settings:

Select either "Other" or "Not Yahoo" then use these settings:

Incoming Mail (IMAP) Server

Server - imap.tools.sky.com
Port - 993
Requires SSL - Yes

Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server

Server - smtp.tools.sky.com
Port - 465
Requires SSL - Yes
Requires authentication - Yes

You will then need to generate a 16 digit password and use that instead of your usual one, you can do that here:

Re: Unable to set up email account outlook

When I try to add manually, I get a screen which offers Microsoft 365; Outlook.com; Exchange; Google; POP; IMAP; Exchange 2013 or ealier.  Which one do I choose?

See what happens if you chose IMAP.

@Audi80TDI

What version of Outlook are you using?

If you are going to do a manual setup, chose either POP or IMAP depending on which you prefer.

The settings @caesarome has given are for IMAP so chose that.

Re: Unable to set up email account outlook

It then asks for a password, which I assume is my email password, and then it comes up with the same message - couldn't log you on blah blah - check your email and password and try again!

Re: Unable to set up email account outlook

There is nowhere to put that information.  Once I select Advanced options - Manual I get the next screen below.

Which do I choose?  It seems to make little difference.

@Audi80TDI
