Out of date version of email application

I've received the following email today about access to my emails from my

mobile phone possibly using expired applications such as Apple etc and if I don't update my settings by clicking on the link I won't be able to access my

emails from 15th Jan 2023

is this genuine ?

Dear User,

We wrote to you last year as we noticed that you may be accessing your Sky.com email on your mobile, tablet or other device using an out-of-date version of an email application such as Apple Mail, Outlook or Windows Live Mail.

Out-of-date versions of these email applications will no longer be supported by Sky.com from January 14th . This is to make sure you have a better and more consistent experience with your Sky.com emails.

You will need to make some quick updates so you can continue to access your mailbox.

If you do nothing, you will no longer be able to access your Sky.com mailbox from January 15th 2023 .

To verify your email and instructions on how to update your mailbox, please click here  and follow the link to 'Update your email'.

Kind regards,

Thank you for choosing Sky. We'll be in touch again soon.

No, it's an attempt to spam or hack your email account. Even if the app your using is out of date, verifying your email address as the link purports to do, won't make any difference.

Most likely it's an attempt to capture your log in details or verify that your email address is active for future spamming or scamming.

Just mark the email as spam and otherwise ignore it.

That link goes to a Google docs site so is nothing to do with Sky,

Sadly these emails have been doing the rounds for years now so if you receive anymore just keep marking them as spam.

Re: Access to email account

12th Jan 2023,

similar scam mail to others but with a link to a google.doc file - wifey nearly fell for it but asked me to double-check first. I'm convinced it is a scam as there is no verification content.

Reported as spam.

Re: Out of date version of email application scam

I did check the email address on email-checker.net and it said its OK. I still felt I did not trust it and have ignored .   @Mark39  @A+double+M  @Pug-lover @caesarome

Hi

I've had the same email recently, I thought it was fake so I'm glad I took the time to check on here

Re: Out of date version of email application

Hi

Just to say that the out of date sky was via a Notification, which surprised me to see, as it didn't feel real. After telling hub re it cleared the Notification,  as well as removing some icons from bottom tray which also sprang up at same time.  Never received any emails re it at all.   It's useful to see what's in Notifications, even if you've ticked it.

cheers Diggy
