OK, quick update from me. Would be helpful if someone on here (admin?) could get word out on this.

 

Just spoken to Sky. Started with a chat, ended with a phone call. TLDR is that (I'm being told) Yahoo have suspended around 25,000 email accounts & will delete them (at some point, I think the chap I spoke to mentioned Dec 11th 😯) if no one calls to get them reactivated! It seems you can only do this on the phone & he had to raise a support ticket with Yahoo for them to do it.

 

I was told to call oh three four four two four one one four one one (it won't let me post a phone number) and ask to be connected to the IDM team. They allege Yahoo just suspended the email accounts ignoring whether they're used or not - as it's easy for them do do this rather than work out which ones to purge from usage stats.

 

Utterly 💩 customer service! Sky aren't that interested as they say email is "complimentary" 😡 I think our Sky subscription will be getting reviewed in the New Year & I'll certainly be moving *all* my website singn-ins to a different email address.

 

So, I'd suggest spread the word far & wide as anyone not paying attention could be about to lose their email & with it any MFA protected website access too!

I keep trying to reply to this thread & it's ditching my post. Getting properly 🤬🤬 off with Sky RN.

Well it's been 48 hours and the promised reply from Sky has failed to materialise !

This is an intolerable situation with no access to my email !


Are Sky covered by any Ofcom Rules & Regs to provide a reliable service ?


I feel some major compensation is called for if it is not fixed by the Weekend !

You have no chance of any compensation for any email related issues. The best advice we can give you here is should you get your access back is to set up an account at Outlook.com or Gmail and use this instead.

As a Sky Diamond VIP member I would have expected better treatment !

 

I've been using Sky as my main email since Plusnet notified my they were moving my email to Greenby, now I can't reply on Sky either !

Mmm, not sure how that would stand up against a class action if enough people turn out to be affected ?

 

They still have a Duty of Care to its customers.

The really anoying issue is that I don't know how many of my hundreds of people and organisations that have my email address have my Sky one so I can't easily just contact them to change it.

 

I should have done what I thought about doing originally and using the email forwarding service offered by my domain name provider, that way I could have just switched from forwarding to Sky to forwarding to Gmail or some other provider !

 

2FA is proving to be a bigger issue !

It seems you can only do this on the phone & he had to raise a support ticket with Yahoo for them to do it. He said it could take 24-72 hours to come back up.

Oh yeah & to get through to the IDM team I had to dance with another stupid bot .. so got put through to the retention team (well known hack to get to a human quickly!) then asked to be transferred. Everyone seemed to know exactly what was going on so this isn't some unknown issue they have it's massively widespread. Both me & my partner affected in this house. Going to go through all website sign ins over the weekend & shift them away from Sky. Prob cancel the whole package in the New Year we barely use it these days, they're the only ones with F1 RN though

The number you shared for me straight through to the IDM team (maybe it's chance). He was aware and said approx 17000 accounts are effected. He also tried to claim that all these were inactive accounts, but I told him that many comments online prove this claim to be wrong. If they were all inactive then support would not be inundated with calls about this!

 

A key detail is that they must raise a "spark" to request to Yahoo. I was told that it should be fixed today, but might be tomorrow... Definitely by end of tomorrow (apparently!)
