I’ve just received an email stating important Sky email notification is this a scam

What does the email say? If it mentions that you need to upgrade your email account otherwise it'll be closed/deleted then yes it is a scam.
If you hover the mouse over any links do they point to a genuine Sky webpage?

Is the email about a price rise on your account because if so it is from Sky.

Had an e-mail today from Sky titled 'Here are your latest VIP rewards and experiences', looked very genuine but was flagged by BT's e-mail as spam, came from (removed). Looks like it's legit spam but wasn't sure if contact.sky was valid Sky domain. Can't find any reference to it from a Google search.

From what you have said that sounds legit as it is probably directing you towards the Sky VIP program.
