Sky would never address you as Dear User etc.
They would know who they are sending any email to if it was genuine.

How do you expect them to do that?
As with everything else online, it's up to user awareness and caution.

Because they are difficult to block as they are sent from abroad, if you remember that as long as you use your email account by logging in regularly then all emails like this can be marked as junk/spam.

Must admit, I've had quite a few emails like this of late. The email address that they're using gives it away to me almost immediately as a scam. Still, it's disconcerting to see so many attempts being made.
I appreciate that it's hard for Sky to block these Phishing attacks but I wonder if they're thinking users should update their ID/password if such attacks persist? Or is that overkill?
Anyway, thanks to @Mark39 for the advice on marking as spam and deleting - exactly what I've been doing.

It's difficult to take action against the perpetrators as they simply create a new sending email address whenever they wish and carry on regardless. It's why it's crucial for us email users to be aware of the possibilities. Sadly, judging by the regular posts we see from customers who think they've been hacked, (in reality, they've given away their credentials by responding to a phishing email) that many are caught out.
