I have done a service checker and everything is good.

why does it take so long to download emails?

it used to be really quick but now it takes ages and somtimes just wont download or it says you have emails but content did not download

Another Mail app user reported the same issue yesterday. There have been intermittent problems with the Mail app for several months which Apple appear to be in no hurry to fix. Until they do, you might wish to consider using a different app, such as Outlook, or Gmail or logging in online via sky.com.
