Do not have a recovery code to get rid of "2 part log in"

I do not have a recovery code to get rid of "2 part log in".

Spent nearly an hour on the phone to sky who did not seem to understand what I wanted.

It would be helpful to have an email address for them to explain what I want.

Am fed up with waiting for a text before getting my emails.

The Recovery Code was displayed on screen for you to make a note of when you set up 2 step verification, and was also sent to your email address.

At this point in time, as far as we know, nobody can help you if you have forgotten/didn't make a note of/can't get to your emails/deleted the email or for whatever other reason you don't have your recovery code nobody can help you turn off 2FA.

Yes, it shouldn't be like that, but that's the way if appears to be.

It doesn't happen automatically. If you're asked for a verification code, when you log in, you must have set up 2 step verification. Thay being the case, a Revoery Code was displayed on screen and was sent to you by email.

You might not have asked for it as it is sent automatically when you set up 2 step verification.

Does anyone else have access to your account, maybe they enabled it?

Are you able to get into your emails at all?
