Brothers sky email has been compromised, they have a new SIM and new security questions

Hi there,

bit of a large issue here.

scammers got into my brothers sky email (his primary mailbox) and have since ordered a new sim, changed all of his accounts (as they have 2FA access and a phone number).

my question is, he clearly needs to delete the sky email address so they can't change passwords anymore, but phoning sky directs to yahoo, and we don't have a sky account paid for so they refuse to help us. (The sky account was paid for by my mother who passed away in 2020)

is there any way to close the sky email account without knowing the security questions? He has access to his phone number from tomorrow so could a reset via phone be possible? Is there someone you can direct me to to help?

sorry if I have ranted, but they're currently applying for credit on his accounts and we are very scared.

any help is appreciated,

benn

Hi @Bennclark

I'm afraid I'm completely confused here as to what has happened. I'm probably being a bit dim, but can you spell out for us how unauthorised access to your brother's Sky Yahoo Mail account enabled all this to happen?

In answer specifically to your question, your brother can only close his email account by calling and from what you've said that might prove problematic. It might also be a challenge finding an adviser who knows how to do it.

Has the sim been ordered via Sky or another network ?

Did your bother have 2FA setup on the account ?

I don't know how you managed to get through to Yahoo by calling Sky because there are only two ways to delete the account via Sky. Either don't login to it for 5 months which is going to be tricky if he doesn't have access or by calling Sky but the issue you will have is finding someone that knows how this can be done.
