The Online Together Project
Developing a positive online culture is crucial to a young person's social and technological development, as it can provide key building blocks to prevent online bullying, inappropriate behaviour and encourage respect amongst a diverse set of peers. We have partnered with Internet Matters and Samsung to bring The Online Together Project to your family.
What is Internet Matters?
Internet Matters is a nonprofit organisation based in London. The service provides unique guidance and information for parents or carers with children based on age, starting as young as pre-school (0-5) all the way to teens (14+).
They deliver advice on online issues such as:
-
Cyberbullying
-
Privacy and Indentity Theft
-
Screen time
-
Radicalisation
-
Online Grooming
-
Inappropriate Content
-
Sensitive Personal Issues
"The internet is a fantastic place for children to learn, create and have fun, but they may occasionally have to deal with a variety of sometimes challenging issues," states Internet Matters.
Their advice hubs help you to learn more and tackle some of these issues with your child.
So what is The Online Together Project?
The Online Together Project is a tool that has been designed by Internet Matters and Samsung to support young people, parents and carers in developing critical thinking skills and inclusivity online. The tool is formed as a series of interactive quizzes and materials that challenge children and young teens to form unique, unbiased opinions and attitudes to a variety of topics.
The content in this tool has been reviewed and supported by teachers and experts from Global Diversity Practice. This group provide cultural sensitivity training and courses that include engaging, actionable measures to improve our wider understanding.
What and how will this tool teach my children?
Understanding the world at large can be a big ask for someone so young. Popular media and social platforms can become a dangerous place for malleable minds to be influenced by people without their best interests at heart.
This tool places the power into your hands. As a parent, carer or sibling, it is down to you what specific content you would like to focus on with your child. Perhaps they have been the target of cyberbullying, and they cannot understand why this is happening to them. Perhaps they have seemed unhappy or irritable since using social media, and it's down because of the way the media tells them to look.

The Online Together Project will help your child to form opinions based on interactive questions, and navigate their way through difficult social situations. It will teach them how to communicate effectively with others their age, and how to promote positivity within social groups.
By taking the time to recognise how media can influence your child's perspective on the world and what roles people take can positively impact the way in which your child interacts with the world in-person and online.
Where do I start?
You can start by following this link and taking the first of many interactive quizzes! Help your child to tackle some of society’s most challenging issues within the themes of Education, Sustainability, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and Social Isolation.
