Meet the community Oracles: Laing1

Welcome to the penultimate in our series of blogs putting the spotlight on each of our Oracles.

 

You may or may not know but they are not Sky employees they are customers just like you and dedicate an incredible amount of their own time helping other customers. 

 

What makes them tick and how did they get so involved in the Sky Community in the first place? I got the chance to ask these questions and others. Read on for the low down.

 

Meet @Laing1 - a relative newbie to the Oracle Programme. He really enjoys helping us beta test upcoming products.

When did you join the Sky Community?

 

“The 26th of May 2016.”

 

How long have you been an Oracle?

 

“3 months.”

 

Apart from being an Oracle, have you had any other roles within the community?

 

“Yes, Green Room member and Beta tester.”

 

What about you “in real life” What are your hobbies, interests, career history?

 

“Love new technology, building my own PC’s. Also, enjoy walking especially with my dog a mad Springer Spaniel. Although having to take things a bit easy for now due to a recent health scare. My current employment is with the local government. My favourite TV programmes are Doctor Who, Blindspot and game of Thrones.”

 

How did you originally find us?

 

“I was looking to find out more about Sky Q after ordering. I had a few questions on it.”

 

How do you think the community helps Sky customers?

 

“It answers many customer queries and solves their problems.”

 

How would you describe the community to a new user?

 

“A place where you can ask anything related to Sky equipment or programmes and get an answer.”

 

What would be your top tip or tips for a new user on the forum?

 

“Be patient, don’t be aggressive and don’t wind up other members.”

 

Do you have any tips for a member who would like to become an Oracle?

 

“Be yourself but always be polite.”

 

What are your favourite areas and has this changed over time?

 

“I’m usually in the Sky Q board, entertainment board and On Demand board… oh and the boardroom normally!”

 

How do you balance your real life with your second life as an oracle?

 

“I usually log in when I have finished work, so from 4 or 5 until I go to bed.”

 

What are your most memorable moments?

 

 

“My most memorable would be being invited to be an Oracle. Was so surprised also I do enjoy the beta testing.”
