wifi keeps dropping out or freezing on conference calls

I have checked the discussions and looks like lots of people having the same issue but no solutions shared.

I work from home and my wifi keeps dropping out or freezing on Teams calls and I miss vital information so its causing a major headache. I have re booted the router but made no difference. I ran the diagnostics but it says everything is working ok.

I checked the logs and got this:

Please can someone assist as I cant work like this.

I live in a 3 bed semi new build with paper thin walls so cant believe construction has anything to do with it.  The router is a white one sitting in my lounge in the open with no other devises near it.  My laptop is upstairs.

Whats the signal strength like? Does it still happen if you move the laptop closer to the hub?

Re: wifi keeps dropping out or freezing on conference calls

The signal fluctuates between 1 and 4 bars without me moving or anything else changing in the house.

I did a ping test and got this:

Yeah looks like the signal is dropping randomly. Are you using any sort of boosters/extenders

No I'm not using anything other than the Sky router.  Thought about getting a booster but dont know if it will help as it keeps dropping out all together?

@jaynebell42 As you have Sky Max, then you may wish to see if you have the addon for the booster's and get one, Downstairs/Upstairs is never a great combination to keep a strong wireless wi-fi connection!

Before you do that it may be worth doing the same test while next to the router to see if the problem is range or whether its the router/line

Re: wifi keeps dropping out or freezing on conference calls

I'm having this issue with 2 different laptops and one of them is showing the same symptoms even when connected directly via Ethernet. It's baffling me as it only impacts the laptops and MS Teams specifically. The number of time's i'm mid-sentence and the call drops is getting farcical.

Broadband speeds are good, there are no drops in connectivity to the cabinet, so assuming it's wifi interference, but no matter what I change (wifi channels, 2.4/5ghz etc) it makes no difference. One thing I do see is the latency when running speedtests, the ping time fluctuates massively.

Sky Stream is connected via Powerline and has no issues, I also have wifi extenders around the house, but the issue seems to happen in all rooms, includng my office which houses the router and it's roughly 2 foot away from one of the laptops. .

I can see there's 100's of reports from Sky BB users reporting the same thing in the forum, surely this isn't a series of one offs and is something else that's causing the issue.

Re: wifi keeps dropping out or freezing on conference calls

@Megamarvatron Networking is an interrupt driven service and anything on your network can stop it, so you need to eliminate it all which can be a royal pain, but first off is everything off especially wireless devices, connect via Ethernet and see how the laptop does on it's own with respect to your Teams session's since that is what will show you very quickly, Up speed is just as important as the down for that application. Below is a very good application for seeing what is going on with both. Run on Ethernet and on wireless and you will see how they both respond.
