i have just been connected to SKY Fibre 500 and was not told that the supplied router would be almost useless for the sort of LAN setup i have.
currently have a TP link VR2800 that is setup with ip address reservations and mac bindings so i can Wake On Lan PCs etc.
what can i buy to replace the VR2800 and if possible the SKY hub whilst keeping the VOIP line? if i have to keep the SKY hub is there a way to have it just do voip maybe via a new router?

You coukd try connecting the TP-Link unit behind the Sky hubin a Double NAT set-up which works for most applications you can simplify set up by using the Sky hubs DMZ function to avoid double firewall issues.

You can double NAT or place the downstream router in access point mode and connect it to the LAN port on the Sky router. Unfortunately, there is no way of removing the Sky router and keeping Sky's VoIP service. But there is another route, and that is to replace the Sky router with your own and connect a third-party VoIP service with an appropriate box. Still, one would likely lose the telephone number even though the numbers should be portable.

so if i bought say a new router that can connect to the ONT and does option 61, can the sky box then plug into that on its WAN port and work as a Viop for the land line?

To retain sky internnet calls the sky router needs to be connected to the ont with for example an asus rt ax router set up as access point

just found this thread that seems to suggest any dhcpV6 router should work with sky and doesnt need to have Option 61/MER now?

so if the SKY hub needs to be the main point of connection im stuck. it wouldnt be so bad if it could be put into modem mode.

Needs to authenticate via dhcpv6 prefix delegation which not all exchanges support. I mentioned asus rt ax routers because they support both option 61 and prefix delegation

The ont is the modem so the modem in the sky hub is bypassed

ill have a look at the Asus routers and possibly getting a spearate voip or GSM box for the alarm. at the moment the old VR2800 i used with TalkTalk is little more than a switch with USB drive.
actually thats a question. is there any way to plug a HDD into the Sky SR213? i noticed the back has usbc and a separate PSU socket, so wondering if the router was powered via the barel jack would the usbc work as file share?

The usb-c on the sr213 is purely for the mains/power and has no NAS etc functionality
