update on broadband hub email 14 feb 2025
I received an email on 14 feb sayint that "in line with government guidance the hub will continue to keep contected to the internet but from 31 December 2025 it sill stop receiving service and security updates." It then gives options on how to proceed - with Sky Q the options are: 1. change the hub (sign in to order also with a "Order a new hub link)
2. keep the hub and change the hub admin password
3. switch to full fibre broadband
4. add sky WiFi max
This seens an odd email to me.
Can anyoen verify this is a genuine email. (I have spoken to someone at sky who said there was not record of them sending me an emaill on this date). I just want to double check if anyone else reeived the same email.
Cheers

Re: update on broadband hub email 14 feb 2025
I rang Sky and the person I spoke to said no emails had been sent to me on the 14 feb so to ignore it. I am just concerned that as of 31 December I might not get service and security updates if I don;t do anything.

Re: update on broadband hub email 14 feb 2025
If this is the email you were sent then it is from Sky as I received the same a few weeks ago and sicessfully ordered my new hub via the link in it:
Hello,
At Sky we’re always looking to bring the latest innovative technology to our customers. As we do this, we’re always making improvements to our infrastructure to enhance both its reliability and performance.
In 2022, the UK government published a new security framework to make the UK’s telecommunications infrastructure more resilient.
In line with government guidance, we wanted to let you know while your hub continues to keep you connected to the internet, it no longer receives service and security updates. To review your options, including how to update or change your hub, visit our portal here. You’ll need to have your Sky ID and password ready to log in.

Re: update on broadband hub email 14 feb 2025
I got one of those emails on 14 feb too . One of the options was to keep the hub and change admin password it says Type 192.168 -0- 1 in the URL/website bar.' however if you type that in the browser , a warning comess up the page is NOT secure . In fact that same ' 192' was removed from this reply - Your post has been changed because invalid HTML was found in the message body. The invalid HTML has been removed. Please review the message and submit the message when you are satisfied.
I think this whole thing is a SCAM and I am not taking any actio except to delete that email

That would be a default browser warning that the page being accessed doesn't have an SSL certificate: ISP routers typically do not use such certificates.
The 192.168 IP address itself is that of the Hub: no information leaves your local network when accessing it and so doesn't need encryption to be applied.
While it's quite possible that scammers will seek to leverage the Sky campaign, they will be using attempting to divert users to external URLs.

Re: update on broadband hub email 14 feb 2025
The 192 address is that you use to access your hubs settings so it is perfectly safe as only you on your network can access it. The address is 192.168.0.1 and not wish dashes as per your post.

Re: update on broadband hub email 14 feb 2025
Hi,
Which Sky Hub version did they send you?
I got an upgrade to 3.0 in November but 2 months later got this email saying my Hub was out of date by end of year.
Have they sent me the email in error, you think?
Is a 3.0 Hub complaint in December?
Thanks.
