"Your connection is not private" error message using chrome or MS Edge after router swap

Sky sent me a replacement router. the original was a SkyQ package and the replacement is a sky broadband type.  I had originally been able to enter the router using Google chrome and I had set up static IP addresses and renamed the WIFI to my preference.

The new replacement router returns a "Your connection is not private" error message when I try to connect. There appears to be no help with this error as it is thrown up by chrome.

Can anyone help with this? Once I am connected to the router I will be able to do the rest myself.

Thanks

I tried several times to reset the router and although it appeared to reset it did not go back to the default username and password. However, pressing and holding the reset button for nearer 30 seconds rather than 10 did reset the box and from there I was able the make the changes that I needed. I hope this helps someone else.

  • I guess you have rebooted the devices and reloaded the page?
  • Try InPrivate mode.
  • Try another device.
Passing on the tips I have learned in over 24 years as a more than satisfied Sky customer.

Thanks for the response. Yes, I have tried all of those suggestions but the same error message appears.

Thats a normal message and you should just be able to bypass it.

The reason for the message is because the router is using a self signed certificate which isnt recognised by your devices

@jamesn123

Dumb question, I suppose, but how do I bypass it.  If just cancel I get a 401 UNAUTHORISED MESSAGE.

Typically you'd need to use whatever method the browser provides to acknowledge and accept the theoretical risk (which doesn't really exist) and get it to 'trust' the self-signed certificate which the Hub is offering.

Legend!

A lot of the other responses such as checking your browser settings or even getting a new router was of no use, but your previous efforts described precisely what I tried - the 30-second reset was the golden touch.

Many thanks, saved me a lot of stress!
