Re: "Is this email from Sky genuine re. "An update on your broadband hub"

Just phoned up and it turns out I do need an updated hub which has been ordered but he said he can't see that I was sent the email so the jury's out on that one.

@SimKar unfortunately you hit an agent who hadn't read their weekly update as Sky have briefed their internal teams. Sky have to replace older flat Q hubs in batches as they are becoming obsolete but there are still several millions in use so this is a big project.

Re: "Is this email from Sky genuine re. "An update on your broadband hub"

A message has appeared in my Sky app messages section so I guess I have nothing to worry about. The original email from Sky had a link in it that I thought we weren't supposed to click on

@SimKar the link should end .sky and it should be safe as Sky own the whole of thst domain. Behind the scenes we have had reassurances from Sky that while their techs agree the advice to never click on links is sensible the people who designed this project decided to use a link. Go figure.

My SR203 arrived this morning...

Big old beast compared to the ER110, and it's got an external power brick.

The Q Hub has always been a lousy shape for decent WiFi: it was apparently designed to match the Q television box by someone in the Marketing Department...

I'll bow to your experience on that one. I'm in a medium size apartment, never had any complaints despite being able to see 10 other networks from the neighbours!

ER110 was a vast improvement over the original Netgear and original Sky hubs.

Well, it was their first 802.11ac model.  Previous hardware was built to older and much more limited WiFi standards.

The 203 is also 802.11ac ('WiFi 5') while the Max Hub is 80.11ax ('WiFi 6')

Re: "Is this email from Sky genuine re. "An update on your broadband hub"

Most of my devices are WiFi 5, so that's fine. My iPhone is probably WiFi 6, but given they don't transfer large amounts of data that's fine.

Main problem with the older Sky Hubs was they were crippled by 2.4GHz on a single antenna, so 144Mbps was the theoretical maximum and real world it got nowhere near in an apartment block. I was running an Apple Airport as an access point on 5GHz until I got the ER110.

Where to order a new router

I've received an email telling me to order a new router, but can't find where  to do this.  I called Sky but was told that it's not needed yet 🤷‍♀️

So why send me the email telling me to do it?!

But I still don't know where/how to order it.  Any help would be appreciated 😊

@D3BB13M0535

Presumably you have a Sky Q hub which will need replacing before the end of the year. These emails go out in batches to prevent a mad rush later in the year.

Re: "Is this email from Sky genuine re. "An update on your broadband hub"

Have you been able to order a new router?  I clicked the link and it showed me what routers need replacing but I can't find anywhere where I can order a new one!
