poor wifi coverage can i use a diferent router

Hi all,

recent move to sky broadband, i have MER network type which i think is fttc, i want to add another router to get better coverage in the house for wifi and possible add a VPN service. Is here a router i can just connect to the supplied sky modemrouter or am i best to get a full standaalone modem router. is it a simple connectionto a lan port on the back of the supplied router or more complex. I dont kow alot about networks/ routers etc but any infomation would be most helpful.

Many thanks

You'd need to replace the Sky router outright if your going to start going into deeper things like VPNs

Re: poor wifi coverage can i use a diferent router

You have three options....

1. Keep your existing Sky router and add wireless access point(s) behind it

2. Keep your existing Sky router and put another router behind it.

3. Replace your existing Sky router with a suitable DSL router.

I have my system arranged as 2. with a TP-Link AX20 behind the Sky router.

The AX20 provides all DHCP, firewall, wireless, VPN server and DDNs functions. Functionally this works perfectly but does mean that double Network Address Translation occurs.
