No
Can they check if the line into my house is suitable for 'Sky Superfast' before accepting me as a customer for that service?
Yes
However where there's FTTP in the area but not already at the address, this needs to go through the physical installation process.
So it looks like the problem must be related to the Sky equipment sent to me or the service itself malfunctioning (I'm sure I've set everything up as described in the instructions that came with the equipment)?
What is the 'physical installation process' that might be needed if there is FTTP in the area but not already at my address?

Fibre-optic cable arriving either underground or overhead to the outside of the building from duct or pole respectively, then brought inside, typically through a newly drilled hole, and connected to an ONT ('fibre modem')

If fibre-optic needs to be brought into my house for the Sky service to work, would Sky arrange this automatically after accepting me for the service? Or can I conclude that the line into my house is already suitable because Sky has accepted me as a customer for that service? I'm trying to eliminate possible causes of the problem I've got.

Yes
If it's in the UK, putting the address into the BT Wholesale Availability Checker should indicate which broadband provisioning type is applicable.

It's the table and the two text lines below it which are most useful.
Remove any personal information (such as the address itself) if you post an image.

Re: new BB customer with PC that doesn't have Wifi
Any help in interpreting the results of the broadband checker tool would be appreciated. I'm trying to determine if the absence of Internet and telephone traffic at my address could be caused by a need to upgrade the short connection from the telephone wires under the street into my house (I've got the 'Sky Superfast' phone + broadband service).
If not that then the problem must presumably be to do with the Sky equipment sent to me or the service itself not working properly (assuming I've set the equipment up properly).

@Disconnected_cu Sky equipment is all good, type and serial number, how you are connected so link below to follow, and you have the master socket type. On a copper fttc connection??? That i need to have quick read through your post. And from you BTW posting you are on a copper cable fttc connection so you are looking at the OR master socket arrangement.

Re: new BB customer with PC that doesn't have Wifi
I've tried again setting everything up, following the online instructions and the instructions that came with the router. Still getting no Internet or phone traffic (so the 'Internet' and 'Voice' lights on the hub are not lighting and there is no dial (or any other) tone on the phone handset, though the handset is at least getting power). Sky online tests report 'we cannot see your hub' (it's definitely turned on).
The setup arrangement specified in the instructions that came with the hub involve a microfilter plugged into the main phone socket, then a black cable from the microfilter into the hub and the phone handset plugged into the phone socket on the microfilter. That seems to be the right setup but still nothing is working. Do I need an engineer to visit my property now? It's been 2 weeks that I've had no phone or Internet connection!!

@Disconnected_cu Take a picture off the connection to the Master Phone socket, attach it using the camera icon and post it up.
There is NO way for anyone to know if your line is connected, on this Forum.

Re: new BB customer with PC that doesn't have Wifi
@Disconnected_cu you have a simple FTTC service over a copper phone line. The hub needs to be connected to the master phonecsocket in your home as explained here https://www.sky.com/help/articles/set-up-hub-broadband-hub-internet-calls-type-of-socket
It is highly likely that your voice service is now delivered via the phonecsocket on the back of the hub not using the wall Sockets in your home. It will only work when the hub is connected.
Check the hub has connected properly which will should have 4 green lights. If you dont you need to call Sky. To check what has happened. If you want to connect your PC simply plug onecend of an Ethernet cable into the computers network port and the other end into one of tge 4 yellow ports on the hub.

That link for how to connect the equipment requires use of a grey cable, where one end goes into the master phone socket and the other end goes into the Sky hub. However, I wasn't sent a grey cable. The equipment sent has a black (but no grey) cable and a microfilter, so the only way of wiring the hub into the master phone socket is by using the microfilter (as described in my previous post).

With regards to connecting the PC to the hub, the problems are that: (1) I wasn't sent a network cable (so the SKy equipment sent only allows for wireless connectivity, not wired-in connectivity); and (2) because the microfilter has to be plugged into the master phone socket, the Sky hub must be located close to that phone socket (as the black cable from the microflter to the hub is not paticularly long) therefore meaning that a network cable from the Sky hub to my computer would have to be something like 10 metres long to reach the computer!

@Disconnected_cu You would be better to call sky customer service and have an engineer come, test and get you online.
