The Sky Q box can connect wirelessly or wired to the Sky hub. Keep in mind it still needs satellite cabling connected to it though.

Re: moving house and sky hub location

Does the router  / hub need to be connected to the master socket or can it be connected to a secondary socket that is the other side of a wall

please note nothing will be plugged into the master socket and only my sky router  / hub to the secondary socket

cheers

@ramsfan1958Not sure if you will be able to plug the router into any other socket other than the one in the picture with a filter. But others might come in and correct me.

Should be able to use extension sockets, the prefiltered plates are the ones which two ports, these are the ones where you cant use extension sockets.

A 'prefiltered' (twin socket) 'master' faceplate prevents data signal reaching any extension sockets because the whole point of the filtering is to stop extension wiring and devices from generating unwanted signal which has the potential to knock broadband speed. Openreach has been routinely fitting prefiltered faceplates in new installations and replacing older models with these for years as part of any in-premises call, although that won't be appropriate as FTTP rolls-out because an optical connection makes all sockets obsolete.

That appears to be the case, yes.  You'll need to source your own plug-in microfilter(s) though, as Sky no longer box these with their routers.

One thing to be aware of if you don't connect the router to the master socket you will most likely get a lower connection speed.
