massive latency spikes every 10 seconds
I use a desktop computer and an ethernet cable connection, while on average the ping is under 20ms it it will spike, around every 10 seconds ping to the hundreds, and then return to normal. These spikes can last anywhere from a few seconds to up to 20 seconds at a time and have been a major issue for the last few weeks. I tried using a wireless wifi booster to help but that didn't make any difference. I have tested the wifi over a few weeks and it has yet to improve.

Hi @Brawl
Please provide a speedtest taken on speedtest.net using the PC in question while connected via ethernet.
Please also let us know what other devices are conneted to your hub & via ethernet?

Re: massive latency spikes every 10 seconds
Hi,
The link to the test from that site will be below but the problem is that it is not a continuous test so it does not show the spikes. I use a continuous internet speed tester regularly and the results of those tests over the last few weeks show how the internet regularly spikes from the usual 20ms, into the hundreds.

@Brawl are other devices using the connection at the time you get the spikes? These may not be in active use but coukd be uploadingbor downloading as background activities.

Re: massive latency spikes every 10 seconds
What is the speed of your line? That result doesnt make much sense to me. If an FTTC line is getting 18mbps upload it should be getting a higher download than 48mbps. You said your connected via ethernet?

Re: massive latency spikes every 10 seconds
I have the Sky broadband superfast package, I can't find an exact number for what I should be receiving, sky seems to be stating that on average I am getting 71mps but I have never had speed that fast. there are 9 devices in the house but there are only ever 3 being actively used at one time and this issue has only been happening for the last month. I use a TP-Link powerline extender to connect my pc to the internet using ethernet and I have had no issues with this until recently, I also tried switching to a wireless option and it had the same issues.
The lag spikes also occur when I am the only one in the house and only one device is using the internet.

Re: massive latency spikes every 10 seconds
Powerline relies on the electrical conditions in your house which can change at a moments notice. You would need to connect via direct ethernet for a reliable result/test

Re: massive latency spikes every 10 seconds
Next time it's happening, if you type the command ping google.com -n 30 on Command Prompt (CMD), it will show you the spikes, i get 1600+ MS. I have the same issue (intermittent latency spikes), i am connected via Wifi but i havent changed my setup, (Wifi adapter and other PC hardware) since having virgin internet and didnt have the problem then. Seems to only be on some days too so, i am sure it isnt my tech, its the service or Skys router for definite, its the only variable. Although i am going to use a copper cable to test again, i will screenshot the data from CMD next time it happens.
PS it's super painful playing LoL ranked knowing you are going to get reported! Thanks Sky, see you in Iron!
