BT DIGITAL CORDLESS PHONE
If that's a cabled DECT handset base that you wish to locate at a distance from the Sky Broadband Hub, the appropriate cable would be a long RJ11 to BT jack (or RJ11 to RJ 11 with the above adapter), easily sourced online.
Ethernet is not appropriate without additional plugs and a crimp tool, or punch-down hardware.

the way i see this is a BT connection (router) to a ethernet connection. then on the phone end i need to go from a ethernet plug to a BT female connection.
I'd observe that adapters do exist for BT jack socket to RJ45 plug, but these are intended for use in office environments where in-wall 'structured cabling' connects back to on-premises PBX hardware. I've never seen them used satisfactorily in a domestic environment.

maybe best to cut the ethernet cable and rewire it. i believe only 4 wires are used ?

Two for analogue telephone, four for 100Mbs ethernet, all eight for gigabit ethernet.

ok this is how i am doing. i have a bt plug connected to the router this plugs into a rj45 --ethernet cable 6 meters long. now i need to connect this to the phone. only access i have is the end of the phone wire which is a bt plug. so i need to connect these somehow. 4 wires at the phone end 8 at the rj45 end. just need to know which 4 wires red-black-green-yellow go to the connections on the rj45 ?
