Re: how strong is the ethernet cable to the router to the ont
All ethernet cables latch into their sockets, so virtually impossible to accidentally dislodge. But if the cable is too short then the strain on the cable could cause connection issues, so there should always be some slack.

RJ45 plugs are reasonably robust, but not intended to be weight-bearing. Their latching tabs also tend to slacken over time.

Re: how strong is the ethernet cable to the router to the ont
@loverboi in my experience if the RJ45 connector is not positively locking into the socket its time to replace the cable given they are quite cheap and easily available. These cables are not that robust and can be damaged by bending or twisting so buy one thst is long enough to have some slack.

Re: how strong is the ethernet cable to the router to the ont
@loverboi whether a Sky engineer or an Openreach engineer performs a fibre install just depends on who is available. The standard fibre installation will disable the copper connection whether by physically cutting or simply stopping the service. If you specifically ordered the service as a second line then complain to Sky as your father's service provider should have been warned. In theory there can be a second service for your father's use using the same fibre connections although the ONT needs changing to one with multiple ethernet ports.
You can safely switch the ethernet cable between the ONT and the hub if concerned simply power down both before doing so. Reboot the ONT and then the hub. There is nothing special about the Sky cable it is a standard cat5e ethernet cable so can becswitched with any other one you can buy.
