Re: frequent drop-out on Sky hub SR-203 on wired (not wifi) connection
@KDFPA Many customers choose their ISP based on price- which is fair enough.
I sometimes read that FTTP is all the same whichever ISP is chosen re contention, speed, throttling etc.
ISPs such as Andrews & Arnold would dispute that assertion (I am sure), but their customers pay significantly more than those with Sky, EE, Vodafone et al.
Due to my partner and I working from home I looked for an ISP that would offer knowledgeable technical support and customer service.
When I retire, and only need broadband for entertainment... I am going to save some money and chase a cheaper ISP
Now TV Sports + Entertainment + Cinema + Ultra Boost @ £34 pm (till April 2026)
1000/115 FTTP (Aquiss) to Zyxel DX3301
3 x Asus XT9s + + RT-AC58U V3 for WiFi (AP mode)
65" Samsung S92C OLED TV
C430 Samsung soundbar with subwoofer
6 other streaming TVs
43+ network connected devices

Re: frequent drop-out on Sky hub SR-203 on wired (not wifi) connection
Thanks ToomuchTelly!
I never heard of A&A, but looked them up and noted their statement on network conjestion:
"Our target is to ensure links to carriers are not congested - i.e. we are never the bottleneck. Whilst it is technically impossible to guarantee this, we will monitor congestion carefully and provide reports on how well we have achieved that target for each type of service"
From which I take that they cannot do anything about e.g. Openreach overloading, they just promise to monitor it for you - ha ha!
With the suggestions from James (previous messages on this thread), I think it most likely that my intermittent internet availability is due to Openreach overloaded in the street outside. If true, there is nothing I can do about it and I am sure Sky will not do anything and Openreach may, when it suits them, do something but I have no say in the matter.
I am disappointed with the service, though. I only have internet for work, it is just a wire from the Sky modem streight to a single desktop, so dead simple. But it is so unreliable at important times of day that it is effectively useless and I have to do my work elsewhere.
This seems to be the general pattern for every kind of service these days. More technology, less progress.
All the best with an entertaining retirement.

Re: frequent drop-out on Sky hub SR-203 on wired (not wifi) connection
Today it got even worse. I had to fill in an online form and I had to keep returning to complete it again - started at 09:30 and finally got enough internet packets through to complete it at 15:40 after about 20 attempts (I cannot remember exactly how many).
So Sky broadband is fast, but only on for about 1 minute in 60.
I will be looking elsewhere, for broadband I think.
