disappointed with 1Gb gigafast Broadband

Hi,

I changed from BT FTTP 900 to Sky gigafast a couple of months ago and I am not convinced on the speeds. Usually on wifi I am getting around 50mbps (I have just dine a speedtest  on Iphone 13 about 5 foot away from the router, see below)

I do have quite a lot of devices connected (TVs, phones, amazon products) but I have even had to buy TP powerlines for both my son's rooms as their PS5s were unusable for onine gaming. My router statistics are below:

Any thoughts are greatly appreciated. I have mates with similar set ups and they are getting speedtest results on their phones 10-15 times better than I am getting.

Given the contents of your signature, it's probably worth noting that the Q television boxes which are probably now acting as wireless hotspots by default are only capable of slinging a small fraction of gigabit speed: the 'Q mesh' technology dates back to c2015 and is now really rather elderly.

Hi @TimmyBGood

Thanks for replying, yes I have read the same that the Q mesh is old hat. I don't really like the interface of the Sky Stream but I was prepared to change recently  just to have the latest technology - however it was working out even more expensive that Q so I could not justify it. It shouldn't really affect the wifi signal from the router though, should it?

Any WiFi connection through a Q television box rather than directly from the Hub will be on significantly restricted bandwidth compared the gigabit arriving over the optical cable.  A Sky Broadband Hub isn't capable of shifting anything like gigabit itself, as it's WiFi 5 rather than WiFi 6.

As you have multiple Q boxes you can't currently take up WiFi Max and get the newer Hub model.

Re: disappointed with 1Gb gigafast Broadband

Hmmm, I hadn't really thought if it like that.  Where my wireless connections are showing connected to wifi booster then I guess it could be to the Sky mesh network. Although I have TP link boosters also in the house, so hard to know what it I am connecting to. I had all the promises from Sky when I moved over my BB that I could get wifi MAX, even when I asked if it was compatible with Q setup. I am finding it is a common theme that the Sky Experts I am being connected to have significantly less knowledge than I do.

If Sky Q mesh is causing slow speeds to my network, would Sky Stream set up offer a better performing mesh network?

Max is currently compatible with a main Q box and up to one Mini or booster.

Switching to Stream would mean you'd lose the Q boxes entirely (so removing that potential bottleneck) and could also switch to Max WiFi if you wished.

I'd suggest researching both Stream and Max first, though, as both have potential issues.

@Dorts1905 just a thought if you have a Sky hub, q boxes and TP Link boosters you are almost bound to have wifi interference. The sky kit will play nicely one with another but effectively will fill the 2.4 GHz and and use ch36 to 52 in the 5GHz band not leaving a lot of room for your boosters. More wifi is not necessarily better WiFi A wifi analyzercapp will showcwhat is going on..
