Ok, so this is frustrating. I live in an area that has now had the fibre fitted, and I am seeing lots of houses having it installed.
Naturally, I decided to see if I could get it too, and low and behold, I could finally get it!! I placed the order and was told that I could have it installed a week later. I was stoked as I have been trying to get it for ages. I received a message from Openreach asking me to confirm that all was good to go.
A few days before it was due to be installed I got a message saying that there maybe a small delay.
The day before it was due to be installed, an Openreach Engineer came round and informed me that they would have to come through the back garden as the BT chamber was in the path directly behind my house. No problem I said. He then went and spray painted arrows on the floor where digging would have to be done.
Later that day I received another message from sky telling me THAT MY SERVICE WOULD BE ACTIVATED ON THE 4TH OF FEB 2024!! **bleep**????
Are you seriously telling me it's going to take months for Openreach to come and install the line, when a few houses further up the road are having it pulled through??? I asked one of the houses and they informed me that they had ordered it shortly before I ordered mine, so it's not like they had been waiting months!!
Anyone know why this might be the case?? Is there anything I can do to push the process along!?!
Many Thanks

Quite possibly, yes.

Putting the address into the BT Wholesale Availability Checker should return the Openreach notes for the address and may indicate a reason for the delay.

It's the table and the two text lines below it which are most useful.
Remove any personal information (such as the address itself) if you post an image.

" partial Direct In Ground " is typically a complication.

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out moreSounds like Openreach require digging and possibly a trench put in. This can take time due to the following reasons;
- Equipment availability to do the job
- Trained engineers to do the job
- Permission from local council to dig up any property that isnt yours
This combined with the seasonal holidays can mean its quite plausible your install could be next year.
The reason your neighbours might be getting installed quicker is because the path for their fibre cabling might be much simpler. You can confirm this by putting their addresses into the checker you used before for yours. If you post the results back here we can see if there is any difference between their properties and yours.

"Direct in Ground" was a method the GPO (precursor to BT) used fairly extensively until the early 1980s in some areas. Widely used for new build council housing in the 60s/early 70s.
Basically its not a normal "ducted" copper connection where Openreach could blow a fibre through. Its armoured cable buried directly into the ground and there's no ducting so a trench has to be dug (usually no poles in areas where there was DiG cabling). Openreach are exceptionally busy in terms of trenching teams so there will be a delay measured in months...
Neighbours may not have DiG cabling or it was replaced due to faults in the past - DiG cabling is prone to corrosion once there's water ingress. There's also loads of DiG cables been broken by people building conservatories/extensions etc as the DiG cable usually comes up through the footings and hence there's no external clue that anything is there.
At least you ought to get daily compensation as I assume you had a confirmed date for the service going live?
