Thanks for the reply. We did and received a email to say the fault had been fixed but the speed is still the same.

Sky (and other ISPs) don't reduce line speed.  Your usual 36Mbs suggests copper FTTC, which is inherently susceptible to external problems.

 

You'll need to log a broadband fault with Sky to trigger an investigation of the circuit to your address.
