Would Anyone Recommend Sky Boardband?
Hi there. My BT contract for broadband is coming to an end and I am looking to switch. I don;t have the opetion of full fibre yet so was wondering would anyone recommend Sky broadband as I can get around the 35mbps mark speed?

Neither Sky or any other Openreach ISP cannot make any difference to FTTC speed arriving at the address: that's almost entirely a product of copper line quality and distance from the local fibre cabinet.

Sorry, perhaps my question could have been a little clearer. I meant that I currently get around 35mpbs and knowing that that cannot be improved upon, would anyone recommend Sky as a provider or not (ie reliability etc)?

Re: Would Anyone Recommend Sky Boardband?
Likewise, 'reliability' is largely down to the resilience of the individual Openreach circuit, and that's the same for any other ISP. Copper is inherently less reliable than optical fibre, and your speed suggests you are on a fairly long length.
With millions of households supplied you'll find plenty of complaints in this forum, similar to forums from the competition.
For what it's worth, Sky routinely emerges rather well in the annual Ofcom report on customer service.

Re: Would Anyone Recommend Sky Boardband?
@Grecophile1975 my experience is both Sky and BT are pretty much the same on reliability which isnt surprising as they are essentially reselling the same Openreach connection. The hardware provided is pretty similar but customer service edges to Sky in my experience. Main deciding factor is probably price at the end of the day

Re: Would Anyone Recommend Sky Boardband?
Been with Sky broadband since 2014, the last few years with the Boost add-on and then with the WiFi Max hub. Only had one outage during the pandemic; with the Boost add-on, we had an engineer at our door first thing the following morning fixing the issue.
as ever, the plural of anecdote is not data; everyone's individual experience will be better. On account of our experience and 'better the devil you know', we've never wanted to switch away when our minimum term contracts have expired, even when it would have been a little cheaper for the same speed.
