Working from home issues with router regularly dropping out & slow speeds

Hi everyone, hoping someone can help with my Sky router regularly dropping out and receiving intermittent speeds, it's making working from home a nightmare.  It's an issue that has been going on for about 4 months, for those past 4 months i have just been unplugging the router for a minute then reconnecting.  I have the ultra fast broadband package with Sky Q and 3 x mini boxes all running on wifi.  I have read on previous posts that the mini boxes can cause an issue with the router but i'm no expert.  The router is located in an open area on a shelf by the stairs, wifi signal is always strong around the house, any help on resolving the issue would be much appreciated 👍.

@cookiemonsteruk Thanks i'll send them over shortly when i get back in although the wife has just contacted my to say she has just had to unplug it again so i'm guessing the stats won't show much information when i send them over.

@Mikemurg you have a full fibre connection with an `Ultrafast+ connection which should give speed tests of arounf 500Mb/s close tomthe hub. However speeds are reduced further from the hub will inevitably be lower as you only connect devices by wifi. Thiis is complicated by your Sky Q boxes which act as wifi hot spots which is great if the Q boxes has a good  connection to the hub but seriously problemstic if one or more doesn't as your devices will connect to the strongest signal if the speed it can deliver is lower than say a direct connection to the hub.

Simply improving the backhaul connection to the Q box nearest where you work might help. Ideally that would be by using an ethernet cable but where impractical you msy want to consider buying a Powerline Networking kit thst use the mains wiring to communicate . These contain 2 adapters the first plugs into wal near the hub and linked bybone of thhe Ethernet leads innthe kit. The other plugs in near the Q box and is similarly linked. This should improve the speed and relisbility of the Wifi that Q box delivers.

Re: Working from home issues with router regularly dropping out & slow speeds

After connecting my main Sky Q to ethernet the other week I'm still having issues with broadband speed,  currently getting 15mb from my phone on speedtest and the router is only a few metres away.  I'm really not sure what else can be done,  working from home is proving really difficult.  Is there any way of cancelling my broadband subscription and going elsewhere? Clearly not getting the broadband service or speed I signed up for.

@Mikemurg

In terms of cancelling you dont really have a leg to stand on as Sky do not guarantee WiFi speeds in your contract, only ethernet. If connecting your Q boxes via ethernet hasnt fixed the issue you may want to look at connecting your work devices by ethernet or powerline as it may help the stability.

Alternatively you would be looking at 3rd party mesh options.

Re: Working from home issues with router regularly dropping out & slow speeds

Hi @Chrisee , thanks again for your message,  I have wired my nearest sky q mini box via powerline adapters, the signal has improved but the router still drops out 2/3 times a week and provides very slow speeds. Would disabling the hotspots on the mini hubs impove the issue?  The Sky router is situated in the center of the house and provides a good signal all round when the mini boxes are turned off.

Re: Working from home issues with router regularly dropping out & slow speeds

How do I escalate this to Sky as my router has dropped out yet again, I have followed all the suggestions on the forum but still getting issues.  I have no clue how to resolve this????
