Wifi speed

I have a guaranteed speed of 100 with ultrafast. I get around 130 but only after resetting my router.  We have Sky Q, no gamers just smart TV and mobile phones. Every morning I check WiFi speed and it always around the 30 to 40 mark, a router reset puts it up to 120 plus. Does anyone else have the same problem?

You need to test via an ethernet-connected device capable of measuring ultrafast speeds to check your access speed. (thanks @daveNOS )

However I am interested that a router reset temporarily improves the WiFi speeds, I'll give it a try later.

@TechmanagerMal No you don't, most smartphones can quite easily be used for testing ultrafast speeds.

 

@Martin+Pearce The issue you describe could well be down to wireless channel interference, resetting the router will almost certainly cause a channel change which would account for the speed suddenly increasing.

Thanks for your input @daveNOS however, I have it on higher authority (Sky Broadband Technical Expert) that you are less likely to get a true result on ultrafast speeds when testing with an Android device.

Proven in my experience.

Passing on the tips I have learned in over 24 years as a more than satisfied Sky customer.

@TechmanagerMal It depends entirely on the device, blanket saying Android devices are not accurate for ultrafast speed is false, I only use Android devices and mine are very capable of accurate wireless speed testing on 100mbps+ connections(within a couple of mb of ethernet connected devices).

If the advice from the Sky experts is as you say then they need retraining.

It depends .... Agreed but,

the quote was "you are less likely to get a true result on ultrafast speeds when testing with an Android device" not "blanket saying"etc.

(within a couple of mb of ethernet ...?

The adviser is in a senior position so I would expect reasonably good knowledge.

Completely false and absolute utter tripe. My Samsung S21 Ultra can speedtest over WiFi much higher than my partners iPhone XR.

Last night 120 when I went to  bed, only me using the WiFi other than wife's phone we are both in our 70s , no x boxes etc. This morning speed varied between 9 and 24, switched off router and switched on again no improvement   switched hub and router off for 4 minutes, speed then had gone up to 130, I find it absolutely infuriating.
